Excellent Device
By Daniel K
I have been keeping tabs on this device since it was announced at CES 2013. When I saw it on Amazon, I got it as soon as I could. I had been in the looking for a portable Bluetooth type speaker since the holidays 2012. I had narrowed it down to the Jawbone Big Jambox or the Bose Soundlink. When I was about to make a purchase, this Samsung speaker was announced so I decided to wait. I am so glad I waited! The sound is rich and full. It works great with my tablet and my phone. However with my phone, the same tracks sound better thanks to the built in aptX support. I was surprised at how crisp the sound was as well. Bass is good even without the bass boost on. Quite honestly, I can't tell a difference with or without it. Not the the bass doesn't work, but on regular it has deep and full sound already. The volume is sufficient to fill a room or apartment. It works great for a small outdoor patio as well. It won't blast sound for an outdoor backyard party, but if that's your purpose, you probably want something more powerful than any portable speaker of this type can provide. Pairing is simple via NFC. Just hold your phone up to it and it pairs automatically. Bluetooth pairing for non NFC devices is fairly simple as well. The only down side is that you can only pair one device at a time with this speaker. The only other downside is that this speaker does not allow you to talk through it for calls. However the Bose Soundlink does not allow this either. Still more than worth it for the better sound quality with the aptX support. Great that it has a USB phone charging port on the back. Allows for full functional control without awkward cords on the front or side. Also great that it comes with a kickstand and cover. The cover is simple to operate. At first I was confused on how to remove the cover, but the bottom slides to one side to "unlock" the attached cover. Great speaker for anyone in the looking. Very satisfied with this purchase. I also think it's worth noting that while I was a bit suspect of sound quality at first, this speaker delivers. The only reviews I've seen online were what I call "drive by" reviews from CES. Those reviews were from the show floor of CES and not really in a lab testing area or real world environment. Glad that I was not disappointed. I am actually surprised by the sound quality and ease of use of this product.
Update: I recently took this on a 4 day trip with me and was able to use it in the hotel room quite often. It provided great sound that I could hear throughout my suite. Don't let the small size fool you, this speaker provides good quality sound and is great to relax with at the end of a day. Or great to jam tunes while getting ready in the morning. No real distortion at high volumes. However turning it all the way up other than to test it, is really not necessary. It can fill a room with only about 1/3-1/2 volume. Again, very pleased with this device and purchase.

One of the best portable speakers (now)
By oluv
If you asked me which portable speaker is best, until now i would have let you decide between Bose Soundlink, Big Jambox or TDK A33. But after having heard the Samsung DA-F60 recently, i would definitely recommend this over all the others.
Sizewise the Samsung is nearly identical to the Bose Soundlink. Also weight is similar. While the Big Jambox is considerably bigger, the TDK A33 is a bit smaller.
The sound coming out of the Samsung DA-F60 is really rich, full and brillant. Unlike the Bose, which suffers a lot in treble response when not positioned well (it sounds best on-axis, but listen to it from a higher position or from the sides and it will sound dull and muffled) the Samsung doesn't have this directional sound, it has also overall a clearer treble to begin with.
Regarding bass response, Bose is a bit stronger, but the bass on the Soundlink can sometimes already sound overpowering, depending on music, positioning against a wall etc. the Samsung seems exactly spot on. There is a Bassboost-Button, but to tell the truth I hardly heard any difference between on or off.
Vocals sound fuller on the Bose, they sound a bit thin on the Samsung, but this is nitpicking and overall there is nothing to really complain about soundwise. Only at high volumes the sound starts to suffer, but neither the Bose sounds really good at highest volume levels. The Samsung vibrates though with stronger bass notes. This could be annyoing sometimes as it can make nearby objects vibrate around, depending on where it is placed.
Featurewise the Samsung also supports Apt-X to have the best streaming quality possible, and it has NFC for quick pairing, if your phone supports this. And above all it has a USB-Port for charging other device, although I haven't tried this yet.
If i didn't already own the Bose Soundlink (I had it from the first day it became available nearly 2 years ago), I would definitely consider the Samsung. It is slightly cheaper, has a more neutral and elegant look (the Bose just looks too retro for my taste), and it has more and better features. I couldn't say which one sounds better, as both have their own sound signature. If you like treble and always thought the Bose sounded too muffled, I would take a look at the Samsung. If you like the deepest and strongest bass from the smallest form factor, i would probably go for the Bose.
Ps. 2 days ago the new Bose Soundlink Mini was announced. This speaker could turn around everything written here as it is considerably smaller than every other speaker mentioned here (it is slightly bigger than the normal Jambox) but according to most people who already heard it, it should sound much bigger than it is. Bass response should be nearly equal to the normal Soundlink. As it is even cheaper, I would definitely also consider this if real portability is your main goal!

This unit rocks to me !!
By Michael J Hester
I'm not sure what anyone could find wrong with this unit - sounds nearly perfect to me. Has plenty of crisp, clear highs, good detail in the mid-range, and clean tight bass down to what sounds like about 40hz.
I've listened to everything from Michael Buble', to Ripple's dub step mix of Band of Horses' Funeral, with Morcheeba, Mumford & Sons, Imagine Dragons, The Fray and The Eagles in between so far; and Lenny MacDowell's "Ain't No Sunshine" has never sounded better as I write this. Just to note, I also sampled some Judas Priest and AC/DC to see how things went - some of the live recordings needed some eq adjustment to boost the mid ranges, but everything I listened to that was studio recorded, from medium bit rates in iTunes, and even Pandora sounded good, with ripped CD's sounding phenominal.
All the features are simple and straight forward to use and everything feels super solid - with the possible exception of the volume knob feeling slightly wobbly when extended. Bluetooth works perfectly everytime. Bass boost only gives a very slight (+1 or 2 db boost), but makes the perfect adjustment to some songs when wanted.
If you want something small, portable and completely wireless, I just don't think it gets much better than this.
