Surprising Quality and Features in a Portable Bluetooth Speaker
By FiveForm
I purchased this locally at BB for the same price as Amazon, but thought I'd share my experience with the AR Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker.
I had an outdoor picnic function and wanted to play MP3 files from my Android phone, rather than get a boombox playing CD's, etc. There was a preponderance of small, portable devices at the big box store, with the better ones coming in at $150-$300. I needed some volume because I was outdoors in a park and noted that the AR received some good reviews on BB, although there weren't many due to this speaker being relatively unknown to the buying public, it seemed.
At about 13" high with the built-in handle, this speaker was still relatively light and very easy to move around and place. The woofer/tweeter speaker set-up provided plenty of volume, except with some songs if I cranked it up all the way on both the phone and the speaker there was some distortion, so after playing a bit to get the best volume I found I actually did have to turn it down at times since it was drowning out conversation - not bad for a $100 speaker running out in the open with no walls to bounce the sound off of.
The AR Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker comes with an AC adapter AND a battery compartment which holds 6 AA cells. I used rechargeable NiMH cells which I already used for other equipment, but brought some AA alkalines as a back-up. Ultimately, I found that there was an AC outlet available at the picnic site, so the batteries didn't get used. I hear from the manufacturer that this speaker should run at least 4 hours on batteries, but I can't substantiate that claim since I ran on AC.
Still, with both Bluetooth and a wired connection available under the back cover (weather proof)for a music player this is an outstandingly engineered speaker which should be considered for any portable music use. Wearing my phone on my belt, it was quick and simple to turn volume up and down with the volume rocker as well as advance to the next song, etc. Now, this is not a stereo speaker - it has only one channel, but still does the job very nicely when you just need some sounds in remote locations, or in a room, tailgating, or just about any time you want to have portable sound that isn't just coming through your headset or ear buds. I plan on getting plenty of use from the AR this summer and plan on also using it indoors for movement activities (great idea for roving Zumba, dance, or aerobic class teachers). A cute plus is that you can order a decal for the outside of the cabinet representing your favorite sports team, but I personally had no desire to do so...
Get one, and you shouldn't be disappointed. This is the only BT speaker I've found with this feature set - run on batteries or AC, receives via BT, and also holds your player inside, wired and protected. Of course, if you're picky and looking for premium audiophile stereo sounds you can spend 3 times as much for Bose, and others. But for my use, I'm sticking with my AR!

Our son requested this for his 28th birthday.. I thought to myself "boring" But After hearing the sound from this speaker I have to say I was very Impressed. My husband & I were So impressed we bought one for our home too. We take it everywhere, and if we forget it people ask us if we brought our speaker. Both our neighbors on each side of us have purchased on too. We love love love this speaker!! PS This WAS NOT a boring gift !!! We are the life of the party everywhere we go!!

Worked great for about two months
By Call Me Jonah
This was a really good speaker for about two months, and then the bluetooth went out. It still works as a wired speaker, but that sort of defeats the purpose.
