Andy Bell and Mark Gardener had been to Cheney School in Oxford, appearing in the school's musical theatre productions, and in October 1988, they moved to Banbury to do Foundation Studies in Art & Design at North Oxfordshire College and the Oxfordshire School of Art & Design.[6] There they met Laurence Colbert and Steve Queralt. Queralt, who also went to Cheney School, was recruited from the local Our Price record shop where he worked as a singles buyer (although Bell and Queralt had already played together in an obscure reggae/pop band called "Big Spiderback").[7] After considering various names, the band settled for 'Ride', with its evocation of travel, and after the ride cymbal. Bell has cited a performance by the Smiths as the inspiration for forming a band.[6] The band formed in the summer of 1988 and played their first gig as Ride for the College's Christmas Party towards the end of the year. While still at Banbury, the band produced a demo tape, recorded in Queralt's bedroom and hallway, including the tracks "Chelsea Girl" and "Drive Blind". Queralt and his record shop boss and future Ride manager Dave Newton had started a live music night in Oxford called Local Support, and it was due to a cancellation by another band that Ride got their first proper gig at one of these nights.[7] Jim Reid of the Jesus and Mary Chain heard a copy of the demo that was in the possession of the DJ Gary Crowley, and this led to interest from former Mary Chain manager Alan McGee.[7] After the band supported the Soup Dragons in 1989, McGee signed them to his Creation Records label.

"Recently did the dinner train in Spooner Wisconsin and had a very enjoyable evening. The dinner was delicious and very ample portions. The train ride was delightful and the views were beautiful. It was a very relaxing evening."

1) You must be on time for your ride. In consideration of all our guests, the rides must stay on schedule. Therefore, we cannot hold rides to wait for late passengers and there is no guarantee that there will be availability for your group on a later ride that evening.

2) Several years ago we expanded the show by adding a new mile section filled with dozens of new scenes and a 3rd tunnel of lights. Since the rides are a cold weather experience often booked by families with young children, we decided not to extend the length of time for an outdoor ride by driving through the new section.

So. . . we created a BONUS for guests who book the rides! When your ride is over, you will be allowed to drive back through the Kingdom before you leave so you can experience all the wonder and magic of the new section as well as drop off letters to Santa in his mailbox at the North Pole if the kiddos want to do that.

The California Amusement Rides Safety Law (Labor Code sections 7900-7919) took effect in 1969, providing for the inspection of temporary amusement rides (TAR). Shortly thereafter, Title 8 regulations were adopted by the Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board to implement the statute. The regulations govern rides in locations such as carnivals, fairs, community events, festivals, weekend fundraisers, and any other location.

The TAR Safety Inspection Program is administered by the Division's Amusement Ride and Tramway (ART) Unit. Each year, all owners of temporary amusement rides that intend to operate in California are required to submit by March 1 an application for a permit to operate, unless operating before March 1, in which case the application must be submitted 10 days prior to operating in the new calendar year. The second page of the application is a ride list and must list the rides that will be in operation for the season. The final page of the application is the itinerary. The Itinerary must contain every location where each portable amusement ride is in operation. The itinerary must also contain the full street address of each operating location along with the arrival, opening and closing date of each event.
