If you have photos or videos in a Picasa Web Album, the easiest way to still access, modify and share most of that content is to log in to Google Photos. Your photos and videos will already be there.
For those who have already downloaded it, it will continue to work as it does today. But we will not be developing it further, and there will be no future updates.
If you choose to switch to Google Photos, you can continue to upload photos and videos using the desktop uploader at photos.google.com/apps.
Tonfotos has "quick view" mode very much to your requirements (though just like Picasa it is photo library management tool, which might be a slight overkill for your task). If set as default viewer, it opens image by mouse click right away on translucent background, smoothly zooms and scrolls. You can switch next and previous images in the folder by cursor keys.
So..
I just upgraded to Win8 and noticed that when I export photos from Photoshop CS6 and then open them on my browser or Picasa Photo Viewer the colors are much more saturated than they were on Photoshop.
I chose "Color Proof" and Internet SRGB...
Anyone has an idea how to fix this? I have no way to know what colors my photos really are!

I just love, love Picasa image viewer for viewing a slew of jpgs in a folder. I like the way you can just use the arrow keys to move from picture to picture and the mouse wheel to zoom in. Best of all if you zoom in on an image and then come back to it later, it will view at the last zoom setting you left it at. This is really good for comparing two pictures at a high level of zoom and switching back and forth. As most know, Picasa is now discontinued.
Alas I finally made the switch to Windows 10 and no more Picasa. Do you know if the image viewer element of Picasa can be had anywhere or if not, an alternative viewer with the same attributes? I tried Faststone but it isn't the same. It will only zoom by holding down the mouse button and then only at a preset level and then go back to regular mode once you release it. It seems all the Picasa has been removed from all the download sites. Even if I could find it will it install and run on Windows 10? Not loving the windows 10 experience thus far.
ACDSee 20/ACDSee Pro 10/ACDSee Ultimate 10 uses the mouse wheel in a way I find very intuitive. When viewing photos, the mouse wheel will move from photo to photo within the folder; But when you press the ctrl key while moving the mouse wheel, it will zoom in or out depending on the direction the wheel is turning.
DigiKam with Showfoto is intuitive and has is designed as a an Image Management Application with added image enhancement features very useful for a keen amateur photographers. Its relatively heavy on CPU resources and has KDE dependencies and I have been using it for years without issue
Nomacs is the new image viewer with great potentials. It's still in developing process. It has got many similarities with Google Picasa. In my opinion it is far more better than any other image viewer for Ubuntu. It's cross-platform. It has many great features which make it outstanding. Try this.
I work with RAW images so I don't really know which one's the best but I've been happy with digiKam. Alternatively, if you do want Picasa, the windows version works well in wine: -picasa-39-in-linux-and-fix.html
The Picasa viewer is not the Windows viewer. It's not the same program. Obviously. I'd venture to say that the Picasa viewer is more of a "photo" viewer. And an animated GIF is definitely not a photo. Granted Picasa handle some GIFs. But, last time I looked, they didn't handle the 24-bit color GIFs. And they don't handle animated GIFs. Personally, there are a lot of things I'd rather have them working on than adding support for animated GIFs...
I have an Olympus E-PL2 and am taking photos in raw. I have the codec downloaded from Olympus, so I can view the photo with Picasa in Windows, and it looks fine but a few seconds after loading the image, it goes and does something in which it looks like it desaturates the whole photo. What is going on? I know there are many posts asking 'what is a good raw viewer' but I'm looking more for a solution for Picasa if possible since I use it for all my photo management.
I would like to see some of my compressed images on windows photo viewer. Could anyone direct me on how to go about doing this? Where may I find specifications to create a codec that would work with windows photo viewer?
I am guessing that I could create a codec as a .ddl file and place it in some windows directory and Photo Viewer could decode my file format. I have seen some softwares from Nikon imaging that, once installed, allowed photo viewer to display the .NEF (Nikon's RAW) files.
In digital photography sector, Picasa stands as a prominent image viewing and storage program. With its user-friendly interface and comprehensive features, Picasa has garnered widespread popularity among Windows PC users. This review delves into the strengths and functionalities of Picasa, exploring its capabilities as an image organizer, editor, and printer.
Picasa excels in organizing digital photos, offering a streamlined approach to managing vast image collections. Upon installation, Picasa scans the entire hard disk, meticulously identifying and cataloging all images, including camera movie files and other relevant formats. This ensures that no image is left behind.
Beyond image organization, Picasa offers a range of editing capabilities to enhance and improve digital photos. While it may not match the prowess of professional editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Picasa provides a suite of essential editing tools.
Users can perform basic edits such as cropping, rotating, and red-eye removal to refine their images. Picasa also offers color correction and touch-up tools to enhance the overall appearance of photos.
Picasa extends its functionality beyond organization and editing, catering to various photo-sharing needs. The program enables the creation of slideshows, showcasing images in a captivating and engaging manner. These slideshows can be used for presentations, meetings, or personal enjoyment.
Furthermore, Picasa facilitates seamless photo sharing via email. With a few simple clicks, users can select and send images directly from the program, eliminating the need for manual file transfers.
Printing capabilities are also integrated into Picasa. Users can print photos in various sizes, including 3.5 x 5 prints, 4 x 6 prints, and full-page prints. Additionally, Picasa offers contact sheet printing for quick reference.
A 'Picture Tray' at the bottom of the screen allows users to quickly preview individual photos. The 'Import' screen facilitates the addition of images from various sources, including cameras, scanners, and specific folders.
No, Picasa does not still exist. Google discontinued the Picasa desktop application on March 15, 2016, and the Picasa Web Albums service on May 1, 2016. All of the photos and albums that were stored in Picasa Web Albums were automatically migrated to Google Photos.
Picasa reigned supreme as the most versatile photo management tool for Windows users, catering to both casual and experienced photographers alike. Its groundbreaking face recognition feature, unmatched in both speed and accuracy, continues to stand out even years after Picasa's discontinuation.
Google Photos offers automatic cloud backup for your computer's pictures, along with the option to order printed photo books. However, some users may find its photo editing capabilities less extensive than those of Picasa.
