New user questions - Renaming machine_details & Facter deployment

Hi,

Firstly, thanks for the Sal tool! I have just moved into a team where none of the MacBooks have been managed, so I was looking around for a tool to do this.

I have been able to sucessfully deploy Sal and got it talking to my Munki repo.

I have several devices reporting in but are showing the same (xxxx's MacBook Pro).

However the hostnames are different.

Is there any way to get the Machine name updated correctly with the hostname again?

I have testing this solution on about 5 machines, but will be looking to deploy the sal-scripts using the Autopkg option. Is this the option to save me adding in the Server URL and key in?

And will this including Facter as I am not getting any data received (I guess I need to deploy Facter however).

- Not sure I follow here. It is showing you the sharing name and it is updated every run. If the sharing (bonjour) name is set correctly it will get updated.

- No. Deploy a profile with Munki.

Yes, facter needs to be installed for it to be able to return data.

Hi Graham,

Many thanks for the reply.

Didn't know that the bonjour name was used for the display name. I have set these to be the hostnames and all are now reporting correctly.

I will now test the Facter option and then move towards the Munki profile.
