Hi all,

Due to the high level of interest in the Sakai CLE Mobile app project, and the skills in the applicants that have submitted so far, it is looking likely that this project may run as a two student team. One will be focused on investigating, developing and improving the backend RESTful web services (via EntityBroker) and the other will be focused on the front end.

The backend will require solid skills and experience in Java, the HTTP request/response cycle, JSON and knowledge of the Sakai framework (however this second part can be learned on the job if you have the time to put in).
The front end will require solid skills in HTML, Javascript and CSS with particular emphasis on Phonegap and jQuery Mobile, and/or possibly Sencha Touch.

If you have already applied or are considering applying for this project, please indicate your preference for backend or front end work and list the appropriate skills you can bring to bear in that area.

regards,
Steve

It's great to have such a lot of interest!

For applicants reading this I'll point out that Steve runs a team of
developers at the Australian National University, so you'll be well
mentored however this project runs.

We recognise this is a late change, so if you really wanted to do the
solo version of the project that's ok - just let us know. Don't
imagine a team project would be any less challenging or rewarding -
the scope of the project would be larger, and you would have your own
responsibilities, but also the opportunity if you want to try team
programming techniques. It does require an extra level of commitment
from *both* students though, so make sure you're happy with that.

One final point - this does depend on how many slots Sakai Project is
assigned by the good folks at GSoC. We won't know that until next
week.
