I believe that the world of Avatar is a very small planet compared to what we think of as "earth". There were numerous occasions when Team Avatar traveled across the world in days and several times when they went from the fire nation to the earth kingdom in a matter of hours. I believe that the Avatar world compared to ours would be near the same size as Mars just minus that amount of surface area due to the oceans. This would explain many things: The shared cultures. The same language being spoken throughout the world. The same stories and legends. It would also explain the ease of separation into four distinct nations. Because of its small size, people can divide themselves up much easier.
or the hawaiian islands. thats why they can travel from one poll to another. also Book 1 they were flying on Appa we don't really know how fast Appa is. also we saw Aang run at tremendous speeds so we don't really know. for all we know that everyone is in fact fast and they developed there measurements of distance based on how fast they can travel for example the average human can walk 4 mph but if everyone started to be able to walk at 20 mph it would be logical to change terminology so where in someone might say that its 100 miles away in the avatar world it could be there measurements and for us it might be 500 miles or a thousand miles
makes me wonder how time is standardized in their world, seing as it is dlearly not as small as the phillipines or hawaii as the climate is too varied between the regions it only makes sense if the world iks big enough to contain many different biomes, so their world can't be necessarily that small, scientifically speaking.
It's most likely much much larger. Most likely similar to our own is my guess. I've been going through the art books again to find something that might give a clue other than that they take inspiration from various areas in our world.
I have been wondering how the different biomes in the world and I can't say I've seen anything like a Taiga. Unless you want to potentially count parts of the southern water tribe was potentially being it. Could also make some sense seeing that the northern portion of North America contains a great deal of that biome. It would also explain the trees that are apparently close to the shore if we take the LoK game.
