I've installed Resilio Sync with the intention of syncing my Mac's Desktop & Documents folder between two Macs. I don't want separate sub-folders within a 'Resilio Sync' folder, I want a regular file hierarchy of [myusername]/Documents and [myusername]/Dekstop both kept up to date across the two Macs using Resilio Sync.

I've setup a share of [myusername]/Documents on Mac 1 and emailed it to myself. Received it on Mac 2 and gone to setup a sync. But Resilio Sync is telling me I can't point the received sync at [myusername]/Documents on the second Mac as I 'Already have a sync in operation'. Aha - maybe it doesn't like the fact that a Documents folder already exists in my home directory. But I can't delete Documents from my home folder as the Mac complains that it's required by macOS.

So to sum-up: When I try to point my Mac 1 share of [myusername]/Documents to the [myusername]/Documents of Mac 2, Resilio Sync tells me I'm already syncing it. If it's relevant my usernames are identical on both Macs.

When you add a folder Resilio provides the name of the your syncing with. When that folder already exist it suffix a (1) ,(2) and so on. you van manually select a folder you want to sync with. When you select a existing folder Resilio gives a warning like this folder is not empty do you like to continue? you just click yes and are good to go. I Sync my Downloads folder between 2 macs and also Desktop. It works no problem.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I tried this again today, only this time mahually copying & pasting the read/write key from Resilio Sync on Mac One > emailing it to Mac Two and copying & pasting the key to setup the sync on Mac Two. Rather than emailing a link from inside Resilio Sync from Mac One and clicking on it at Mac Two.

I have a problem with Resilio syncing between my Windows PC and my QNAP NAS. According to the App Center on my TS-251+, Resilio Sync 2.7.1.1370 is installed, but when I try to open it, I get an error message "Firefox can't establish a connection to server (my NAS's IP address):14860".

Thanks for reminding me of this. I updated to the 2.7.2.1375 now. After the update, I was able to open Resilio on the NAS. It was working there for about 1 minute, then darkened the browser window, showing

Next I stopped Resilio from the NAS's App overview, and started it again after a short wait. After that, I could connect to Resilio again. This time it did not stop responding after a minute. I hope it keeps working continuously now, and succeeds to finally sync a newly added subdirectory that I created recently, to my PC's harddisk.

Doe you analyse any logs and other files? Doe you have enough space on storage and also enough RAM? How much peers you have with which no. of files and folders? Because it seems that Resilio starts normal, but doesnt run continously because of other reasons.

At present, only 1 peer is on, but there could be up to 3 if my other devices are running or in the LAN. There are currently 62 folders to sync, some are small with only a few small files and sync only to one of the possible peers, others can contain subdirectory structures up to 6 levels deep, several 10,000 files and several 100 GB and sync to 2 or all of the peers, if they are online.

So far I have not analyzed any Resilio logs, from former tries to look into some (on the PC, not on the NAS) I vaguely remember that I did not understand really them. Where would I find Resilio log files on the NAS?

Dear all!
We suspect that there is an issue with async disk operations that leads to Sync crashing. The suggested way to prevent it from happening is adding "async_io" : false, line to resilio-sync.conf file, like this (please mind the syntax):

Thanks Macom - I had got that far. But now on the resilio web UI, it is not recognising the data 2 folder. I've check that all of the read/write permissions are enabled through OMV5 but its not recognising the data 2 folder - any suggestions?

But when I click on it, it does not show the subdirectories, but I click choose it anyway, leading the 'foldererror32795' error. Its meant to to have the .sync folder in this directory but its not there, so then I checked the permissions in the OMV5, Shared Folders.

My dream feature would be to have my iOS Camera Roll replicated in a Sync folder so that changes are replicated to my computer in real time (within the limits of iOS backgrounding, of course -- Assume I open the iOS Sync app and let it sync), if I delete something from iOS, I want it deleted on the desktop as well, and vice versa, it would be useful to be able to clean up from the desktop and have the photos deleted from the iOS photo library on the next sync.

@The Dave photo backup implies that it backs up photos in case you accidentally remove them, too. Therefore the fact image keeps living in backup after you remove it from iOS is by design. Sorry - no "Sync" feature for camera roll for now.

It depends. If we are talking about regular sync folder - yes, deleting it from synced folder on iOS will cause deletion on all other devices. If we are talking about Camera Roll backup - then no, pic won't be deleted if you remove it from your camera roll.

Right Helen, that's the problem. If I take a bad or inappropriate photo, I literally can't delete it. If I delete it from my desktop, the copy on my laptop replaces it. If I delete it from my laptop, the copy on my desktop replaces it. This makes the feature basically useless.

I wanted to be able to edit my photos, or delete them, and have the changes propagate to my other computers. But I didn't want to have to copy them from the Sync backup folder to another folder every time.

But I'd still like the option to have the "backup" folder be read-write and to have the actions on any device propagate to the others, including the phone. It would be a very nice way to delete unwanted images from my phone which is currently a hassle on an iPhone.

I know an old thread but can we please have an option, behind a couple warnings, that forces a one-way one-time sync? This way we can delete a photo or all photos from our mobiles and also delete those from the other RO devices.

I've done a test and can see my data is encrypted at the destination (both ends are Windows). What I just do not get is if I need to recover the encrypted data how doI decrypt it? I guess I decrypt on the destination server and then sync back or copy to usb for example?

If, for some reason, device A is gone (dead system or dead storage), you'll need a new device N, install Resilio Sync, then enter the R/W key (or the Read-only key), synchronize and get the original data on device N.

As for your question, if the key changes over time, I would think that defeats the purpose of having the key in the first place. Just like with other software that uses a "private" backup key, you usually only have to "write down" the key once, and it'll be good for the life of that share or product.

When you create a "Encrypted Folder" share on device A, you get 3 keys (R/W, Read-only, Encrypted), the folder on device A is not encrypted and has the original data.
Now when you share the "Encrypted" key to device E, device E has encrypted data after fully synchronized. There's no way to decrypt this folder.

The encrypted data can be decrypted on the encrypted node as well. The necessary conditions and details can be found in the mentioned howto on encrypted folders (see the use of the command line interface).

If I am left with only a folder of encrypted files on the client, can't I decrypt it? What else do I need to keep to decrypt the data if, for example, only the disk with the files is left, but not the operating system with Resilio?

Most times, your computer will sync with a server on the internet and get you within a second or two. But if you just booted up a machine that hasn't been on for weeks or months, the clock will be wrong until it syncs.

With the free version is only possible to use and exchange the key of each peer. For that you can also only use the standard peer type. You choose on server side a folder to set up a peer. After that you share that peer and copy the key and that key you use on your mobile phone to connect.

I'm using using the linuxserver image as I could not even get the resilio sync docker image to work. But tried to add an extra directory but no change but that is probably because I am using different image,

Regarding a "normal" linux server image I have no experience, since I use on all my Synologys a installation package, which make all basic settings. So maybe also the mounting of volumes and so one, I dont know. Maybe you find in the internet some instructions for that, such as

Maybe is a thing of permissions. The user of Resilio calls normally "rslsync", what I know. If rslsync is member of administrator group, normally you see that folders. Otherwise you give rslsync all the needed permissions.

It could be different issues. Resilio must indexing all content, normally you see such activities in the GUI. By right click with mouse to the coloumn line you can switch on different coloumns, among others the number of files etc. This must increase up to the current number of files. If you have no permission message and maybe a red exclamation mark beside, I think this is not the problem.

I've been testing Resilio Sync for the last couple of weeks and it's working well for my needs. While the free version seems to suit most of my needs, I like to support the development of tools that save me time and effort by buying a license.
