Arban's fundamental method book for trumpet was first published in 1864 and has held a top spot in trumpet studies ever since. In 1936, two of the finest trombonists of the day, Charles Randall and...
Five years of preparation have produced a timeless volume that is now the standard method for both trombone and euphonium. With insight from two of the finest brass musicians in the world, this volume brings Arban's great work into the 21st century.
solo parts included: BC only
In June of 2013 the trumpet version of the Arban Method that was published by Carl Fischer was changed, eliminating the valuable annotations by Claude Gordon and changing the layout and pages in the book where various sections start. The page numbers are known by many players and teachers since the pages were done in the 1890s or earlier. The 1982 edition is what I will primarily be selling here as I locate more inventory.
When possible I will stock the version which includes English, Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese and Japanese text, otherwise I will stock the new Platinum Edition that comes with a CD with the piano accompaniment to the solos at the end of the book.
The Arban Method is one of the first two complete cornet methods written and is still in use today by all professionals and students on all the brass instruments. Saint Jacome's Method was also written at the same time and is an essential complimentary book. The Arban Method is arranged in a topical manner to easily find material. This particular edition is unique in that Claude Gordon restored the original text of Arban and made annotations indicating who said what among the previous editors. It is essential to understand the original meaning behind any book and Claude Gordon assisted in accomplishing that.
The trombone, euphonium and tuba versions of this book are the complete versions of Arban with the duets, 150 melodies, characterstic studies and solos missing from the other previous versions of this great book. This amounts to more than 100 additional pages of valuable material. These versions also contain interesting commentary from world class artists and experts such as Joseph Alessi, Dr. Brian Bowman, Dr. Jerry Young, and Wesley Jacobs.
Jeff Purtle, internationally recognized trumpet player and clinician, offers global masterclasses rooted in the esteemed traditions of Claude Gordon and Herbert L. Clarke. As a direct protg of Claude Gordon, Purtle emphasizes effortless trumpet playing and efficient practice techniques, attracting students and professionals from all over the world.
The best known and most used Arban method (link to Amazon) is probably the trumpet method, but in this case, we have a fully adapted version for euphonium. We can say that the content is exactly the same as the trumpet, but adapted as follows:
Although the Arban method starts with simple exercises, it cannot be considered the best method to get started in the world of the euphonium, since it does not contain a large selection of beginner exercises and, in addition, it quickly increases in difficulty, so it can be difficult. something complex. However, as soon as you have a basic level and register (at least up to a Sun on the pentagram) you can start studying it without any problem.
On the other hand, it is a method organized by type of exercises, so it should not be studied in order from start to finish. Within each type of exercise, they are ordered by difficulty, but it is possible that page 100 has simpler exercises than page 50. Therefore, it is necessary to be clear about what you want to study at each moment and in this way, look for the most suitable exercise.
The Arban method is so voluminous that we can find exercises from a basic level (although not initiation), up to exercises typical of virtuoso musician. In other words, it is a method that will accompany you, practically, throughout your life as a musician, and if you are able to finish it, it means that you will have become a great virtuoso of the instrument.
Organizing the more than 500 exercises of this method is extremely complex, so we have had to use different sources to try to group each type of exercise in the course that is usually taught, and thus be able to offer you the best possible information. But if you see that any of them should be in another level, do not hesitate to let us know so that we can correct it.
Although the Arban method is, as we have already said, very, very complete, it can also be said that there are certain aspects that it does not cover, for which it would be necessary to focus on other methods that go deeper. For example:
Also remember that from our Clave de Mi player you can change each score at any time, being able to change the clef, the tuning of your instrument, or the tuning of the score, but in this way you will have the method directly adapted to what you need.
It is always highly recommended to have the methods and pieces in physical format (paper). In this way you will be able to create a great personal library, which will allow you one day to rediscover exercises that you had forgotten, lend your family and friends a book from your collection, or simply look at it and make you remember how hard (and at the same time exciting) was interpreting that work that you have overcome today.
You also have the option to download the Arban method for euphonium in PDF. This version is created for both trombone and euphonium, that is, written in Bass Clef and scores in C. We do not know if there is a PDF version written in Bass Clef and scores in Bb, but remember that in the Clave de Mi player you can find it this way.
For this reason, we wanted to dedicate a special section to it in case you simply want to download this wonderful work with piano accompaniment. If it is the first time that you face it, we recommend that you try it from the Player of Clave de Mi, lowering the tempo a lot, since there are extremely fast variations in its execution.
