Hello to our new and returning ALASC members!

We're excited that the 2021-2022 school year has started and can't wait to see you all again. We do have some updates for you all.

Meeting Dates
First of all, we have a list of our meeting dates. We meet on the following Tuesdays from 5:00-5:45 pm in CdC room 15.
  • September 21: Interest meeting
!
  • October 19
  •
November 16

  • December 21
Plans for Fall Semester
  • We're planning an off-campus get together for late September at a local brewery. Details coming soon!
Beyond that, our year is going to be shaped by what you want to do and see. Have an idea? Come to a meeting or email us at ala-st...@stkate.edu.

MLA Annual Conference
Whether it is your first semester or last, attending conferences can be incredibly beneficial. This year, the Minnesota Library Association annual conference will be virtual. If you haven't registered yet, you should definitely consider it. Don't forget you can apply to have up to $200 a year reimbursed for professional development activities through the Student Governance Organization.

Keeping Up with ALASC

We know there are a lot of ways to find information about ALASC. We wanted to give you a list of our communication methods and how we'll be using them.

Email list. If you are receiving this email, congratulations! You're on our email list. The email list is our primary way of communicating with the group. We use this list to send out meeting reminders, event announcements, meeting follow-ups, and occasional information from ALA.

Blog. This is one of the easiest ways to find our list of meeting dates. We do not use the blog for meeting reminders, but to advertise our big events, activities, and opportunities.

Facebook. If you like our page on Facebook, you'll see meeting reminders, event announcements, and occasional links of interest.

Joint MLA/ALA Membership
You do not need to be an official member of ALA to participate in our group. That being said, we strongly encourage you to consider joining. For $44/year, you can join both ALA and MLA while you are a student. This is less than what current professionals are paying and gives you increased access to library resources, networking opportunities, and reduced conference fees. Let us know if you have any questions about this.

As always, we would love to hear your suggestions on what you would like to see with the group. Please feel free to reach out and get involved with the group in whatever way works best for you.

If you need to contact ALASC representatives, you can email us at ala-st...@stkate.edu, or email Alyssa Costopoulos at accostop...@stkate.edu.

See you September 21st!

Update: St. Kate's MLIS program is currently working on renewing a possibility for free joint memberships to MLA/ALA for students. More details to come. In the meantime, it might be beneficial to hold off on paying for a joint student membership.
