Hello everyone:

A few days ago I forwarded a message from Fr. Tim Mansfield + asking for your assistance in an interview to better help the AJC as an international body to better communicate to its lay members.  There were some questions that I relayed to Fr. Tim + to which he responded below.  Please be sure to read his response and let me know if this is something with which you would be willing to help.  This is an excellent way to serve our organization in providing clearer channels of communication and information to better assist you and others on their spiritual journey.  I am assured that the interview would be painless and for those of you who are night owls, Father Tim + is in Australia so I believe that he is available whenever we are in the late hours here due to time zones and whatnot.

Let me know if you would be willing to help (there are a couple of you that I believe would be great for this, you know who you are) or you can contact Fr. Tim + directly at father.m...@johannite.org.  Thank you for your help everyone.

Hi Joey,

I'm sorry to take a few days to respond. Your community members can certainly help. We will have a few people who are very connected and other who are not so. The church doesn't provide much for the latter group, so St Eve's provides very precious information on active AJC members who aren't very informationally connected to the rest of the church (other than via you).

Here is an example of some of the questions, as a guide. The format of the interview is semi-structured interview, so we'll be asking some open questions and just letting people talk.
  • Have you ever gone looking for information about the AJC? Where did you look? Did you find what you were looking for?
  • How do you think the church could communicate information about itself in a different or better way?
  • How would you prefer to connect with other AJC members within your local group and beyond?
  • Do you use social media or the web to connect with members of other churches? What do you appreciate about that?
  • Do you feel connected to the AJC in your daily life? How could we help you feel more connected?
  • Are there any resources you wish the AJC provided that it currently doesn't?
If a few of your people could spare me 30-60 minutes via Skype or phone, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I suppose since my members have not really had any communication with the AJC except through me, they are not sure how they can help or feel unprepared. I told them I would contact you to see if I could get a sample question or so, but I am sure I can get you one or two individuals to help you out!

Brothers,

I wanted to add, could you let me know fairly soon whether or not you're able to help with this so I know whether to wait for your response?

Brothers,

Monsignor Jordan, Father Anthony and I are engaged in a review of the church's communications systems and policies. As a part of this process, we have decided to consult with specific sections of the church community about their needs and interests, so that we can approach the review from a people focus rather than a technology focus.

Our next step is to consult specifically with current lay members of the church. We need some volunteers who are prepared to participate in an interview about communication and connection in the AJC lasting less than an hour via Skype or phone.

Would each of you please ask your local members for volunteers? if we had one or two from each group, that would be terrific.

If any of what I've said is unclear or puzzling, please ask.

With love,

Tim+
