Thank You

        Thank you to Christian and his helpers for cleaning out and repairing the gutters.  Thank you to Lucy and Elizabeth for grading, landscaping and planting along the eastern edge of the building.  Your efforts to maintain and beautify our building are so appreciated.

All Hands on Deck! Two Upcoming Coffee Hour Potlucks!

        Please plan to attend Liturgy and coffee hour on Sunday, July 30 as we say farewell to Fr. Ignatius and Kh. Maria Valentine, and on Sunday, August 6 as we welcome Fr. Symeon and Kh. Jing Kees and their children to St. Raphael! Both coffee hours will be a parish-wide potluck; sign up sheets are posted in the narthex. Note that August 6 is the Feast of the Transfiguration, so even though it falls during the Dormition Fast, fish, wine, and oil are allowed.
We encourage everyone to attend both of these Sundays to provide a warm and loving send-off and welcome during our clergy transition.

Congratulations!
        Congratulations to Demitri and Lizzy Likomitros who are expecting their first child this February.

Dormition Fast-
        The Dormition Fast begins on August 1 and lasts through August 14, in anticipation of and in preparation for the Feast of the Dormition which is on August 15.  On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the first two weeks of August, we will pray the Paraklesis service at 7pm (Aug. 2, 4, 7, 9, 11).  There will be Vesperal Liturgy for the Feast of the Dormition at 6:00pm on August 14.

Next Sunday's Gospel Reading
        On Sunday August 6 we will hear the account of the Lord's Transfiguration on top of the mountain in Matthew 17:1-9.  https://www.antiochian.org/epistleliturgicday/3541

Food for Thought
     When God at first made man,
Having a glass of blessings standing by;
Let us (said he) pour on him all we can;
Let the world’s riches, which dispersed lie,
     Contract into a span.

     So strength first made a way;
Then beauty flowed, then wisdom, honour, pleasure:
When almost all was out, God made a stay,
Perceiving that alone of all his treasure
     Rest in the bottom lay.

     For if I should (said he)
Bestow this jewel also on my creature,
He would adore my gifts instead of me,
And rest in Nature, not the God of Nature;
    So both should losers be.

     Yet let him keep the rest,
But keeping them with repining restlessness:
Let him be rich and weary, that at least,
If goodness lead him not, yet weariness
     May toss him to my breast.

George Herbert, The Pulley
