[A] SSE Sai-ence Fair:
We are going to have an SSE Sai-ence Fair on Sunday March 31. The idea is to connect something from the world of science (nature, zoology, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, psychology, botany, engineering, sports/health,
environment, etc.,) to a spiritual teaching.
All SSE students will participate by doing Individual Projects. Each of the classes is being mentored by one of the Group 4 students. They have given directions to the students based on their specific class (younger students
are doing a display, older students are doing experiments ). So, if you have any questions, your child should be able to answer it. Otherwise, please talk to your class' Group 4 mentor (info coming soon).
Parents, we want to see what the children come up with, so please help them as needed, but allow them to create their project as independently as possible. All students will be given a board for their display.
[B] SSE Resumes : SSE Resumes this week 3/31/2019 after the break. Please be sure to be in by 2.30 PM for Sai-ence Fair followed by SSE at

March - April
Intercalary Days begin, 2.26.2019 - 3.1.2019 - Baha'i:
Ayyám-i-Há, or “Days of Ha,” are devoted to spiritual preparation for the Fast, hospitality, charity and gift giving. The Badí’ Calendar is a solar calendar consisting of 19 months of 19 days each (361
days), with the addition of “Intercalary Days” (four in ordinary years and five in leap years) to adjust the calendar to the solar year.
Mahasivarathri, 3.4.2019, Hindu: Sivarathri (night dedicated to adoration of Lord Siva) is observed every month and Mahasivarathri is celebrated once a year on the fourteenth night of the new moon.
The waning of the moon is the symbol for the waning of the mind. Lord Shiva, one of the Hindu trinity is revered as the destroyer of ignorance that arises from the mind. So, during this most auspicious time, engaging in various spiritual practices to invoke
Lord Siva's grace and benediction ensures success in achieving mastery over the mind. The very word ‘Shivarathri’ means auspicious night. Mahasivarathri - The Inner Significance is a compilation of Sathya Sai Baba's discourses on the essence and significance
of Mahasivarathi and its rituals.
Shrove Tuesday, 3.6.2019, Christianity: Commonly known as Pancake Day, this is the day before the start of Lent. Christians traditionally 'use up' rich foods in preparation for fasting during Lent.
Ash Wednesday, 3.6.2019, Christianity: Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, the forty days (not counting Sundays) that lead up to Easter.
Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti, 3.8.2019: Celebrates the birthday of Sri Ramakrishna, teacher of Swami Vivekananda.
Purim, 3.20.2019, Jewish: Festival that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people of the ancient Persian Empire from Haman's plot to annihilate them, as recorded in The Book of Esther.
Holi, 3.20.2019, Hindu: One of the most colorful Hindu festivals, Holi begins with a bonfire to celebrate the death of Holika, the demon of winter. On the second day, people throw colored water
over one another to remind themselves of the mischievous young Krishna.
Naw Ruz, 3.21.2019, Baha'I and Zoroastrian:
The "New Day" is the first day of the Zoroastrian/Persian and Baha'i New Year. For Zoroastrians, Naw Ruz also celebrates the creation of fire that is symbolic of Asha, or righteousness. It is also the day on which Zarathustra received his revelation.
Kordad Sal, 3.28.2019, Zoroastrian: The anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Zoroastrian faith.
Laylat al-Isra'wa al-Mi'raj (Mi'raj al-Nabiy), 4.03.2019, Islam:
Commemorates the ascension (al-Mi'raj) of the Prophet to heaven following his night journey (al Isra') from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascent to heaven and return the same night. Begins at sundown.
Mahavir Jayanthi, 4.09.2019, Jainism:
Celebrates the birthday of Lord Mahavira. Born with the name Vardhamana in ca. 599 BCE, he was later given the titles of honor, Mahavira ("Great Hero") and Jina ("Conqueror" or "Victor"), a title applied also to the other Tirthankaras.
