We Listen, but do not follow HIM - by Prof. HJ Bhagia)
It was 2001, Swami was having trouble walking and it was a depressing sight to see HIM 'suffering' so. One day in the portico of the Mandir,we expressed that it was painful to see HIM in such discomfort. The conversation that ensued was hurting to hear, but may be very relevant today as we strive to follow HIS message.
He said,"Abhi ham chala jayega, aur koi aayega". (I will go away now, someone else will come.) I pleaded that Swami should not say so. HE said, "I pleaded that Swami should not say so. He said, "Kya karen, koi sunta nahi". (What to do! No one listens to what I say), I replied that it is impossible that we do not listen to HIM. HE replied, "Sunta hai, Karta nahi". (People may be listening, but do not follow what I say.) I asked Swami what was lacking in us that we were unable to follow HIS message. I wondered aloud that while HIS communication is always crystal clear what went wrong in following them.
Swami graciously explained. "There are four reasons why people are unable to follow what Swami says.
First, people lack faith in Swami, that's the reason they do not care to follow Swami's message.
Second, people may have faith but are afraid to follow Swami's words. A true devotee should have no fear, he should follow his conscience.
Third, following Swami's message may be against one's own desires.
Fourth finally, if someone is not ready, Swami will not force. if a person is suffering from mental disease, Swami will not force him on the spiritual path. A person suffering from malaria will find sweets bitter or if someone who is suffering from diabetes will be harmed if offered sweet."
Let us strive that we not just read Bhagavan Uvacha, but promise HIM Karishye Vachanam Thava (We will do as you say)
