Hi Tendai,            cc Stephen, Mark, Riaan

Sounds good, like another priority management area zone.  Maybe be ready to down play ‘recovery’ to ‘cost-containment’, like BBR.  Thank you for including me but see what follows too and hence I distribute like I do.

Also had great discussion with Stewart Gibson today (just after I last spoke to you). The issue was dow to approach Zimbabwe and how to align to international sources.  All our own preceding discussions refer and even informed me. His and my discussion dovetails incredibly with all international catchment areas across South Africa – namely and notably Ehlanzeni District (Nkomazi catchment), All of the Gauteng, Northern Cape, Tlokwe(Vaal / Orange catchment) and Bulawayo (et al Limpopo catchment).  These are all in order to fall in line with GIZ-sponsored “catchment development approaches”.  Other areas rely on merely government sources – i.e. KZN and EC…… But after yesterday – perhaps provincially we have some chances to distinctly position our NRW-IAM offering in that context.

This is significant.  It says that our RSA NRW-IAM agenda is now well fitted into such IWRM approaches but also then fits into Zimbabwe and vice versa. Its another whole layer of POTENTIAL SOFT GRANT funding. Maybe we just got something to augment and counterbalance WRC sources.  Now ‘we’ DO seemingly have at least “potential alignment”.  Now I notably ideally want us in Harare to be approaching GIZ as early as possible on the 9th BEFORE we see ANY others like you are setting up.  Is that still possible?  Just keep options open.

So not only is our agenda aligned but Stewart also gave guidance on what to formulate to start to work towards proposing such funding– in due course.  We will have to shape this carefully and judiciously.  This can take us a long way forward in coming weeks / months.  Await more details especially when I copy stevlyn@...

No more for now.  Be encouraged,

Nigel

Subject: Another opportunity to demostrate cost recovery in Hayview on behalf of Mbombela Municipality

Hi Nigel

Another opportunity will likely arise from Mbombela Municipality. The General Manager : Technical services called me and we discussed at length on various issues and challenges they are having. I am meeting her tomorrow after 1430pm for some presentation on water resources. I propose next time when you are here I will arrange we meet her.
