Hi Siya and Glynn,             as well as other EL-based Water colleagues, especially in relation to another separate meeting of yesterday.

This email is particularly layered and directed following yesterday – the key words are perhaps ‘illustrative’ but also ‘continuing focusing’ – all in summary as follows;

-        AN INFORMAL merely NETWORKED Water Demand Management (WDM) Strengthening “New Tooling example”  - a potential BCM point of emphasis for collective (proposed “IAM Support”) Grouping development / further interest?

-        ESTABLISHING A COMMON POINT OF COMMUNICATION ENTRY – as well as ways to sustain that.

-        POSITIONING BCM to potentially be one case in further planned interaction in and beyond October.

Now please read on;

Thanks VERY much for the VERY compressed time we (all) had yesterday.  Though compressed – it seemed singularly effective, especially when it can be potentially project or case related like together with our BCM reps here.  (This proceeded the Grouping meeting) I trust this communication actually helps to reconsolidate at least communication for the dimensions of the NRW-IAM offering.  That is needed to continue to be both defined as well as aligned and I trust move towards some level of EL-centred sustained effort.  Let me be a little more specific. Firstly thank you two, Siya and Glynn, for kicking the day off with what was only the first of 4 meetings and levels for NRW-IAM I dealt with yesterday – all in East London.  The others were largely relating to shaping and regional dynamics / potential positioning for what NRW-IAM offers and needs.  So thanks to all – purposefully as vaguely as that – there is still much to happen.  Yes - Some nice advantages in a ‘compact but also relatively capacitated places’ like East London.  It is just regrettable that my demands and logistical challenges could not do the same with other District municipality – Chris Hani.  I have had then in view for a long time and yet want to confirm and bring then to related levels.  But I did even progress those media blockages and will kick that into motion in hope of what was notably grouped.

Siya, let me get you (and Chris Hani soon I trust) in from the beginning.  Here-with below the same linkages below - with all these same parties – that then belated brings you to the same access levels and for you (including all others copied) to be further hooked into subsequent follow-up emails to others from the next ‘Group’ meeting you both could not attend yesterday.  Please just expect those emails and or follow up yourselves or among yourselves even individually with those that did attend there.

Herewith I also refer to a further and next email – just to yourselves – until notably it is confirmed as appropriate / valid to your needs and there is a way for others to learn from yourselves - also the promised ‘Smart-metering Technology insight’ as referenced from the NRW-IAM potential case of BushBuckridge.  Surely while you probably have similar order populations to serve, Buffalo City, has many, many more viable options and choices to build on from this kind of strengthening and improvement, especially own internal BCM capability.  I leave Glynn and Siya to decide themselves what if anything further is communicated to anyone outside of BCM.  But I trust the statements just made are sufficiently revealing of one case / project tooling potential.

This type of example was actually requested from Stephen (ADM) as a way forward when we were closing ‘the follow-on ‘Group’ meeting.  I think it may be applicable – rather only after there has been further inter-action (telephonic, electronic or otherwise) between my one partnering organisation Ilifa Africa (Mark or Albie) and yourselves.  What I said above refers first.  In this kind of direction – I personally can now hope to have my own personal follow through with yourselves – probably rather on the 21st October (rather not the 22nd) – in relation to how an emerging (“Amatole NRW-IAM-motivated Regional”?) Group could or should benefit from your own exemplary need / rather initiative. (Many other BCM options could also be consuming but that defers to what Glynn can recommend as only he and I touched on those extremely briefly before you Siya joined us). Let yourselves and I take this ‘tooling’ example up independently of this email and then bring this back to this ‘grouping’ if, as and when appropriate – especially on the 22nd.  But I trust the potential is noted and can be re-attached in subsequent already proposed interaction even beyond the 22nd.  Again – further emails /inter-actions are diverse and will or could necessarily refer.

Further I can confirm that further emails into this grouping will now include two distinct grouping of resourcing persons (not entirely visible) and hence communication as well.  There are two distinct ways of realizing NRW-IAM relieved balance;

a)      NRW-IAM Push Factors – I like the word ‘enabling’ and it most usually accessed via grouping or programming.  All related communication is channeled via this email address;

SAIMIC_Not-s...@googlegroups.com

And then can be monitored by this Google group email repository or blog;

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/i-am-enabling

This one is much more of a NRW-IAM clearing house in order to “as enabling” as possible.

I don’t have to tell anyone here how diverse that can surely be.

b)      NRW_IAM Pull Factors – this is distinctly operational or regulatory, etc, has intellectual capital / proprietary aspects linked to it and relates to individual clients / potential projects and like above can be best illustratively brought to grouping levels.  All related communication is channeled via this email address;

i-am-e...@googlegroups.com

And then such correspondence can be monitored by this Google group email repository or blog.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/saimic_not-so-public-refs.

But as such this Group is definitely an exemplary resourcing pool of intiatitives and information.  Probably worthy of much more attention.

PLEASE note that this latter Google group is more specific and assumes some level of individual responsibility of what goes into it.  I will now have to moderate that but until now, that has not been the case.

I trust this has at least partially consolidated matters AFTER yesterday.  Let me close with a statement that I had to make independently to Oliver – this “NRW-IAM elephant” (group discussion used that expression) is understatedly “LARGE”.  In all the above, I trust I have put enough ‘enabling mechanisms’ here to at least enable the interest of those interested and motivated to take this further.  NRW-IAM is and MUST - when launched in future – BE attached to adequate levels of localised ownership.  I trust my own limitations (two hands and feet) might not become a limiting factor.

And yet I state unequivocally, I was well pleased with the level of readiness and interest evidently offered yesterday.  Absolutely no way can I hope to capture or convey that content but I accept the challenge of needing to find resources to actually make this more tangibly accessible.  There has to be enough to get started.  It just will NOT happen without lots of help.  The lack of grant sources is frankly terrifying for the level of distress our water service industry is in.  And the trend is largely going in the wrong direction rather rapidly.  This was the shared motivation (as I understood it) that Andrew and I absolutely concurred on the need for more enabling (i.e. resourcing in broadest terms) after the Group meeting had concluded – and none of us actually now have the necessary sources of budgets to meet necessary ‘water services needs’, let alone ‘wants’.  However I want to attach that this is the NRW-IAM reality and why I increasingly favour the term – “water service intensification” as then none of us are beyond its reach.

Over and out to BCM and this whole grouping – at least collectively for a while.  You will have to link in via the above google groups to probably say with this.  Now I am into Zimbabwe and that might be similarly tracked via the same media.

Sincerely,

Nigel Lowe

Hi Glynn and others not attending today,  (Future coord via Esther? If Oliver Ive, plus buys in today…)

If you have time for nothing else – please scan the Presentation link below – then that might save us all time and get to “value” in the EC context sooner,

Nigel

Hi,

This link is perhaps the best input in advance of today and or understanding what Oct 22 might hope to do, with lots of help.  Jus down load and scan – it might save us all time but then we might get to shared value quicker too.

Re the Service systems ‘CAR model or metaphor’ (hotlink) – needs lots of change support – “bridging” from “AS IS” to “TO BE”.

Offer two SADC scenarios’s about the ‘nature of the bridge’ (hotlink).  Can you relate to these?

This Draft Change-Promoting Presentation (hotlink)

And root RSA WRC Proposal (hotlink) is also more accessible if it helps to give some greater background.

Greetings,

Nigel
