We wish to share with you the astounding success of the project and offer you more information on the vital service being provided.   Emergency Flood Relief ProjectIn response to the record-breaking floods in Varanasi, India, the Sai Maa Vishnu Shakti Trust is collaborating with Asmita to serve the thousands of people left without basic services. On Monday they began delivering basic meals to those in the most affected areas and have so far served 2,500 people. Each day volunteers are wading through the deep, dirty waters of the Ganges to deliver meals to the homes of those isolated by the floodwater.   During these distributions they have received a show of gratitude from many, while also coming to realize how great the need is and how many more need assistance.   Our community has already generously contributed over $13,000 to support this project, surpassing the original goal of $10,000.  What started as a relatively small project with the anticipation that the floodwater would recede by Wednesday is turning into something much greater. It is now Thursday night in India and the floodwaters are still rising. The additional funds received allow us to extend the support we are offering by increasing the number of meals we provide, and giving additional items such as dry food supplies, toiletries and clothes to those who have lost everything.  To achieve these new goals we have revised our target to $20,000 raised by Sunday, September 1st.        The cost of the cooked meals and packages of dry staple foods being distributed is approximately $2 per person so any donation can make a difference in the lives of those affected.
