Dear Friend,

Natural disasters strike and destroy lives in an instant -- without warning, without discrimination.

In late August and early September, the worst flooding in decades consumed the holy city of Varanasi, India, home to Humanity In Unity’s India humanitarian programs and the Sai Maa Moksha Dham Ashram (currently under construction). Humanity In Unity (HIU) provided immediate, critical relief for the most vulnerable of an already vulnerable population.

Because of your generosity and caring, an all-volunteer HIU team partnering with Asmita (part of the Indian Missionary Society), has delivered over 5,000 hot, nutritious meals to disaster victims in more than 10 communities thus far, some catastrophically impacted. We could not have done this without your support! Thank you.

The disaster and danger are not over… illness is spreading rapidly

The waters are receding only to make way for disease from polluted waters, continued hunger, and an almost impossible rebuilding for some.

As with any disaster, immediate relief  is only the beginning. Much more will need to be done to support victims over the next days, weeks, and months, and thanks to the strong support of HIU donors, we are making the commitment to continue to help the flood victims.

With your continued action, we will be able to extend and expand our delivery of disaster relief services by:

-       Distributing staple food materials including rice, dahl, wheat flour and potatoes

-       Distributing medicine and clothing

-       Providing emergency medical aid for those now falling ill

Help us continue to respond to the dire need

HIU is grateful for your contribution as part of our global community and we ask for your continued financial support as this disaster moves into a potentially more dangerous phase over the next weeks, and then recovery over the next several months. With your support, we can continue to be a powerful presence for these victims -- delivering critical, life-saving services, and, just as importantly, bringing hope, love and dignity.

Please make a second or monthly recurring gift now. Know that the action of making even a small gift makes a huge difference.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at kend...@humanityinunity.org with your questions and ideas. We cannot do our work without you, and I am deeply grateful for your support and that of our broader global community.

Respectfully,

Ken Downes
