to Sailfish-Project
This is a summer project for me, which once completed, I hope to have
a relatively stable RAP.
First off, the goals are to create something that allows RAPID
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT (RAP). I am not a big fan of frameworks as I
feel each time I use one I am reinventing the wheel just a bit.
Likewise, using a solution like Xaraya, or Drupal, or the countless
other projects on the other end of the spectrum is too limiting for
building robust applications. What Sailfish does instead is set up
the application, such as a user system, variable handling, security,
etc, in the background but allows for the application decisions to be
made by the developer.
This will not be for everyone, and it might just be for myself, which
is no problem to me. I chose to use Xaraya as the starting point as I
am familiar with the concepts, and the modular nature of the structure
makes it extremely easy to remove what is not needed.
Here's the roadmap:
* Take a broad approach to remove subsystems that are specific to
Xaraya development. So far I have removed Dynamic Data, Module Hooks,
Legacy subsystems, Blocks.
* Make the install work with the removal of the broad subsystems.
* Realign the core modules and UI to make the modvars easy to
understand and remove restrictions which make sense in Xaraya's
approach, but not in Sailfish
* Redesign the UI for the remaining components to act as a standalone
program.
* Introduce an application profiler.
* Take a fine tooth comb to the remaining functionality to remove
where appropriate.
* Support where needed.
This is a part time project for myself. If you are interested in
joining the development effort, let me know and I will happily give
SVN access.
Thanks!
