I am saddened to share with you the shocking news of the sad demise of our beloved Hindi Teacher,  Shri G Venkata Rao garu.

 

Ever smiling, always heartful and considerate, GV Rao garu was a warm and affectionate father figure for all of us!

 

He breathed his last late this afternoon at Nidadavolu after a  brief illness; with his entire family by his side.

 

The last rites are being  performed this evening.

 

Please do join me in saying our solemn prayers for his soul to rest in peace.

I fondly remember him not being just aTeacher but incharge of the Green revolution in the school.

This is really a sad day. Personally, I feel i have lost one of my true teachers in life today. Even our adolescent minds could not detect one angularity in this gentle soul.  

For someone who wouldn't hurt an ant, I hold the unique distinction of being slapped by Sir (Venkatji) in the very first week of joining school. I consider myself lucky for getting my first defining lessons on life and leadership from him. Class V students were to fall-in in front of the palace assembly hall and the boisterous bunch of hundred raised a cacophony that probably raised the hackles of Venkatji. Being one of the sincere types, i was first in the loose line that had formed behind me and it took one resounding slap to get the rest of Class V in order. Looking back 40 years, if it weren't for the slap, i wouldn't know what it means to be a leader - lead only if you are willing to take responsibility for the faults of your team.

Venkatji apologized an hour later, which he needn't have considering school standards for such events, and he called me home that evening for a snack. For me, he stands-out as an gentlest human i have come across thus far. 

May his soul rest in peace!!
