Happy Monday! J
For us to be able to achieve success in any task, we must first feel motivated enough to do it. Execution often fails because people do not feel driven. Extensive research has shown repeatedly that internal motivation, i.e.; our innate desire to do something, is superior to external motivation, i.e.; rewards that come to us from outside. People who self-motivate are more successful, more happy and less stressed.
This however raises the obvious question – “how do we motivate ourselves?” Sometimes the scenario outside is so bleak that we feel discouraged, hopeless and goals seem unachievable. In such cases, how we do make sure that we stay raring to go? This lovely quote by Goethe answers this – “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
Each one of us is a winner, as we all have at some point in our life, tasted the sweetness of success. We have all crossed some milestone that we are proud of. Given that nothing succeeds like success, we can use our past successes to motivate ourselves when the going gets tough. Looking back on what has already been accomplished puts us in a positive frame of mind. This enables us to look forward with hope rather than with a sense of defeat, with the desire to “go get it”, rather than an attitude of giving up.
The weekstarter today illustrates this powerful principle with a short story excerpted from the book “The Energy Bus” by Jon Gordon.
Welcome to the weekstarter and have an “energized” week ahead! J
