Vande Mataram
Baba always refers to Bharat as a holy land of sacrifice and
merit. He refers to Bharat as the engine, which will steer the destiny of other
nations which are like bogies of a train. "Bharat" denotes the entire human
family. ‘Bharathi’ denotes Goddess Saraswathi who is the Vaakdevata (Goddess of
Speech). Hence every man born with the gift of speech is a Bharatiya. The name
is not associated with any particular individual or country. The term
‘Bharatiya’ is applicable to the entire human family. "Bha" refers to the
Principle represented by Divine Knowledge. "Self-knowledge" is "Bha." "Bharatiyas"
are those who take delight in Self-knowledge. Hence everyone who shines by his
own self luminous power is a Bharatiya.
Bharatiya (Indian) is one who acquired divine strength by Atmabalam (the power
of the Spirit). So, whoever one may be, whatever one's country, he has to
acquire this strength of the Spirit.”
“Bharat has produced many great sages and saints who have taught profound
truths. It is a land of heroes who fought for the freedom of the country. It has
been the leader in the knowledge of various arts and sciences, in music and
literature. It is most unfortunate that many born in this sacred land are
unaware of its unique greatness. Love for the mother is a sweet virtue. What a
pity that today, love for the Motherland should have declined!
You must love your Motherland. Resolve to dedicate your lives in her service.
Unity is the primary requisite. People celebrate the birthdays of our great
ones, but few care to follow their teachings. There is nothing great about
celebrating birthdays. Every effort must be made to understand their teachings
and act unto them.”
" Esteeming love as the essence of divinity, you have to engage yourselves in
loving service to society. You have to restore the glory of Bharat. Bharat has
been in the past the preceptor of all nations. All other people are coming to
acquire peace and enlightenment. In this situation, it is a great misfortune
that Bharatiyas (Indians) themselves are not conscious of their greatness.
Bharatiya history reflects the achievements of Bharat in the realms of the
physical, the mental, the spiritual and all other aspects of life; we have to
fill our hearts with this heritage.”
“It is high time you realised what a sacred country Bharat is. In this holy
land, nothing is lacking. ‘What cannot be found in Bharat cannot be found
elsewhere’ is an ancient saying. In spite of these multifarious endowments, this
country is being regarded as poor and backward. This is ignorance born of
delusion. Only when we free ourselves from this delusion, we can experience
Atmic bliss. We can experience Brahman (divinity) only when we can get rid of
bhrama (delusion).”
“When everything is available within Bharat, why go begging to other countries?
Everything has originated from Bharat. Hence, having taken birth in Bharat,
strive to promote the glory of Bharat. Every devotee should take a pledge to
protect and promote the greatness of Bharat. Like an elephant that does not know
its own strength, Bharatiyas are unaware of their power. Despite their myriad
capacities, they are behaving as weaklings, like an elephant before its mahout.
You have to get rid of this weakness.”
“Strive to make India strong and happy so that it may not be dependent on other
countries, or become vulnerable. She was once the guru of humanity; let her
assume that role again. Lead a life in such a manner that you are respected and
revered as a child of Bharath, a life that will be an example and inspiration
for all.”
- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba: Bharat is yogabhumi, the land of spirituality. Bharat is punyabhumi, the sacred land. Bharat is karmabhumi, the land of sacred activity. Bharat is tyagabhumi, the land of renunciation.
Janani Janmabhoomischa Svargaadapi Gariyasi—the mother and motherland are worth more than heaven itself.
- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

BHARAT is no ordinary country. It is so pleasing to God that He incarnated several times in this great land. The people of this country developed great love and devotion to God (Bhagavadrati). Consider Bharat as your own mother. Develop love and reverence towards her and uphold her dignity and honour. You will be called a true and worthy son of Bharat only when you uphold the dignity and honour of Bharat Matha (Mother India).
This land of Bharat is the motherland for great people, who acquired name and fame in different continents.
This land of Bharat is the battlefield where the warriors of the foreign country were driven out and freedom from foreign rule acquired.
This land of Bharat has acquired great name and fame for erudite scholarship. This land of Bharat is a divine land which has produced great intellectuals in the fields of music, art, literature and various sciences.
Having been born in such a great land of Bharat, Oh students! The responsibility to protect the wealth of righteousness of this country is yours.
- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

In the very name “Bharat” we have three letters. (Written in Telugu, “Bharat” comprises three letters). Bha, the first letter stands for bhava or feeling, ra, the second signifies raga, tune, or melody, and ta, the third indicates tala or beat. Thus, Bharat is the country where the glory of God is sung with bhava, raga and tala. This country has another name Hindudesam which means a country that shuns violence, ‘Him’ himsa or violence, ‘du’ du ra or shuns. For these reasons God has chosen to incarnate or descend in human form in Bharat.
You should protect and uphold Sathya and Dharma. You should of necessity follow these twin principles. They will protect the entire universe. You should develop love for the Universe in all its vastness and magnitude.

What is happening to Mother India? …67 years after Her Independence, the country where do we stand…? we have we taken our Beloved Mother land? Quoting Bhagawan’s Own words, The man who cannot proclaim that “This is my native land, this is my mother tongue” is a living corpse; he is no human being at all. People are giving up love for the Motherland and fostering greed for money. It is time for man to make amends and retrace his steps towards his dear Motherland, loving her with reverence and love, truly knowing the great good fortune the countrymen have been bestowed upon, writes Sri Jullie Chaudhuri on the occasioin of 67th National Independence Day.
Ae Merey Pyarey Watan…
Tujh Pey Dil Qurbaan…
Tu Hee Meri Aarzoo…
Tu Hee Meri Aabroo…
Tu Hee Meri Jaan…
(Indian Patriotic Song…that extols the Beloved Motherland as life, life breath and true love…while dedicating the heart to her…deeply acknowledging that she is the sole desire and in her lies all prestige, honour and dignity…)
A bit of Her is in everything you see,
She lives through you…
…She lives through me…
She is the Goddess of plenty…
…Her land exemplifies spirituality…
Her earth exudes that perfect purity…
Thus Her terrain is chosen time and again…
…by the Supreme Personality…
…through His myriad Advents…
…to express…
…His Ultimate Divinity…
This lofty privilege is granted solely to Her…
Oh! Thee so incredibly dear,
Beloved India…
Truly Incredible You are…
Oh! Most Gracious One…
Oh! Mother India…
Why then do i discern a certain despair…
…beneath that stoic veneer…?
Why then do i notice Your eyes…
…brimming over with droplets of tears…?
Why do i feel so…and know…
…know…that You know no peace…?
How can a Mother be at ease…?
From anxiety how can a Mother know release…
…when…
…Her children are overcome by virus and disease…
…being caught in the mire of selfish pursuits,
Disharmony, discord and greed…
…when attempts to reinstate righteousness…
…seem feigned and hackneyed…?
How can a Mother exult in freedom…
When…
…Her children live in the prison…
…of escalating wants…
Where,
Overriding integrity…desires supersede…
And ethics remain sullied…?
Can a Mother smile in content…
…when…
…the gushing stream of patriotism…
..of earnest sentiments for the Motherland…
…has been reduced to a paltry indifferent trickle…?
When sons and daughters now appear weak-willed and fickle…?
When brave committed hearts,
Remain just a memory relegated to the past…?
On what grounds…
…can You have peace, Oh! Mother…
…when hypocrisy abounds and immorality astounds…?
Oh! Most Wondrous Motherland…
How i wish…
…i could help overcome Your melancholy and anguish…
Assuring wholesome substance of sustained effort,
Alleging earnest support…
By lighting a coil of trust and hope…
…which would herald kindred harmony and accord…
…where every Indian heart…
…would beat in adoration for You…
…dedicating extreme dedication to You…
…pledging utmost loyalty for You…
…for their homeland…
Thus making You feel reassured…
Your sync restored…
What can i do to make You smile…
…an eternal smile…
Oh! Glorious Mother of mine…
So that…
…from thoughts of the past and future…
…You may never recoil…
Blessed am i…
…to have been born upon Your soil,
Oh! Land of my birth,
For all that You mean to me…
…i salute Thee and Thy abundance…
Offering deep reverence -
To Thy presence…Thy essence…
…and Thy distinct fragrance…
i do feel passionately for You…
…as well as all that You have gone through…
It is time enough to let You know…
…how precious You are…
…i delight in remaining within Your sphere…
Oh! Thee ever so endearingly dear…
…i pray for Thy peace in the now and here…
Oh! Beloved Motherland…
…most beautiful and bountiful by far…
Incredibly dear…
Oh! Incredible India…
Truly…remarkably incredible You are…
