Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has been extremely kind and loving in giving me the chance of being a student in His Institute (and hopefully for life too). I would like to share personal experiences with Swami and thoughts that He has inspired via many episodes through this blog.
An unforgettable sketching spree

Sri Kasturi is a monarch among the devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Those that are unaware of his devotion and contribution should definitely head to the comprehensive Radiosai article on Kasturi because that is exactly the place where Vijay too headed to get a picture for his sketch. When he showed the completed sketch to Swami, He gave him some professional advice.

The second semester just flew by and the third semester of Vijay’s MBA life began. He was enjoying every bit of it because his hundredfold ‘payback’ was still on! Following his intuition, Vijay made a sketch of the affable Prof. Anil Kumar. Swami glanced at the sketch during the darshan and almost burst out smiling. He was so happy and that thrilled Vijay beyond measure. He knew for sure that Swami would accept that sketch. That is exactly what happened as Swami came to the dais. He called Vijay and asked,
Vijay feels fulfilled seeing the joy on Swami's face which reflects on Prof.Anil Kumar's face also.

But it was not as if all the sketches were received with great fanfare and joy. When Vijay drew Dr.John Hislop, Swami frowned and said,

One day, Swami told him,

Swami repeated the same ‘mistake’ once again. This time, it was when Vijay had made a sketch of Sri. K.Chakravarthi, the Secretary of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. When he showed it to Swami, Chakravarthi sir was right behind Him. Swami returned the sketch and asked,
Both, Sri.K.Chakravarthi and Sri.S.V.Giri, are all smiles seeing the sketches made by Vijay aka 'Ravi'.
That was when he received a revelation about the Ravi name. It happened towards the fag end of his student days after he had completed and offered scores of sketches. It came as a pleasant surprise to him.

At Kodaikanal, Vijay made a sketch of Lord Dattatreya. In the sketch, he replaced the four faces of the Dattatreya with Swami faces. On that day, Swami delivered an informal discourse to the students. He said (the gist is given below)
Holding the sketch of Dattatreya visualised with Swami's faces.

A word about Ratanlal Aunty. She came to Swami in the early 1960s and has been intimately involved in doing Swami’s work. She has been blessed with the opportunity to cook for Swami for several decades and it was her dishes that Swami relished before actually being admitted to the hospital in March 2011. Ratanlal Aunty had also been present in Swami’s entourage at Bandupir forest in 1974. Swami had promised the students then,
Ratanlal Aunty is gifted with a sketch.
Vijay made that sketch as soon as he could and presented it to Swami. Swami was very happy and He called Ratanlal Aunty again. He told her with great pride,
Dear Swami, when I know that you are the ‘punisher’, what do I have to fear. Bring it on - a thousandfold if need be. I know it will only be a shower of Love.
What has devotion got to do with serving those around us? Bhagawan lovingly awakens the sense of inner discrimination and makes us introspect on our innermost feelings today.
Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, Friday, August 22,... 2014

A devotee without the faculty of observation and discrimination fails to ascertain what is real and unreal. They cause pain to others, though they have no intention of troubling others, as they lack the capability of understanding. Such people and many others preach about devotion beyond attributes. Anyone who does not have the quality of being helpful to others, and is devoid of compassion and pity is said to be possessing demonic devotion. Some other people lose the relationships with people who are near to them, thinking that the object that is dear to them is far away. Such devotees can be called as practicing devotion with hatred. Stay away from all of these practices. The true aspirant is the one, who has love, compassion and concern for all, including those who are less privileged than themselves. They work with them and help them in a way in accordance to the status. Love is primordial in devotion.
- My Dear Students, Vol 3, Ch 7, July 9 1989.
To regard the universe as a manifestation of God and to experience it as such is real devotion. – BABA

Sri Sathya Sai visits Hyderabad
Rudram 11 - Ljubljana, Slovenia (27.09.2014)
Dear brothers and sisters
After successfully concluding Rudram 2012 and Chamakam 2013 projects, Veda Union is starting next project in its mission of uniting Europe through the Vedas - Rudram 11.
Rudram 11 is a Veda Union project with the goal to organize 11 times continuous chanting of Sri Rudram Camakam hymns at 11 different locations in Europe. These magnificent hymns will thus be chanted overall 121 times in different locations by numerous devotees of God and will spread the sacred vibrations throughout European subcontinent.
The first of 11 such unique events is going to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Saturday, 27.09.2014. All are invited to save the date and attend the sacred Vedic recitation.
With this announcement we also share a wonderful news of receiving a Chathurmuka (four faced) Shiva lingam from famous Pashupatinath temple in Nepal as a gift to all devotees of Veda Union. The lingam, which was taken to a local shrine in Kathmandu dedicated to Sri Sathya Sai Baba, was blessed by materialized vibhoothi. Still full of sacred ash and its fragrance, the lingam arrived in Ljubljana to bestow all success and protection to the new Veda Union project. The lingam will decorate the main altar during the Rudram 11 event in Ljubljana where all will be allowed to have a sacred darshan.
