Obituary: Professor Alfred Chanda

Dear Colleagues,

SAHRIT has learnt with great shock the tragic death of Professor Alfred
Chanda on Sunday 07th January 2007 in a road accident in Zambia.

At the time of his death Professor Alfred Chanda was the President of
Transparency International Zambia Chapter, Dean of the School of Law at
the University of Zambia and also a member of the SAHRIT Board of
Trustees. He was indeed our key resource person especially in the area
of regional human rights training courses organised by SAHRIT annually
since 2002. He also worked with numerous other human rights related
organisations in the region of Southern Africa and internationally.

Professor Chanda will be sadly missed by all at SAHRIT and indeed all
former participants of SAHRIT human rights training programmes.
