Hi Everyone

My name is Ritu Riyat, I am a public health professional with a MPH
from USC (California) in epidemiology. I am excited that such a group
exists which focuses on the the health of South Asians. My interests
lie in South Community Health Research as well as promotion of
preventative and alternative health services.

I would like to start by asking if anyone is aware of a website that
serves as an South Asian information portal, providing statistics on
various conditions? This would be a good start.

I look forward to working with you.

Ritu

Ritu,

You have raised a great question and answer is tricky
(from my point of view). There are a few sources
which provide some information.

SAPHA (South Asian Public Health Association)
published brown paper which has various subjects
covered (Epidemiology included) but is not free and is
not available online (to my knowledge). It was also
published ?3 years ago.

for CAD: South Asian Health Foundation in UK is
publishing their data soon (including epidemiology)
http://www.sahf.org.uk/

South Asian Public Health Forum is another source
which may have some information (mostly in email group
forum) http://www.saphf.org/

WHO has a cancer epidemiology book. But I have not
looked at it.

One of the goals of SAHRI is to provide a centralized
place for all the information that is scattered and
ensure that we can back up the data with studies.

I am currently trying to put together "article" on
prostate cancer - see
http://academia.wikicities.com/wiki/SAHRI:Prostate_Cancer

I hope this helps.

If you know of other resources, please let the group
know. Better yet, go to the
http://academia.wikicities.com/wiki/SAHRI and start a
new topic of these resources (it's really easy, try
it),

Biren
