Hi everyone. I am working on an article highlighting alcohol and drug abuse in the South Asian Community. I am interested in knowing if culturally specific support groups exist for this disease as well as organizations focusing on the south asian community and alcoholism.

If anyone has any resources or contacts please do share. I think this is a great topic to shed some light on and let people know where they can turn to for help.

Thanks

Ritu,

That's a great topic, I wonder if you could post your
findings on the wiki database as on ongoing work. I
can help you need in terms of using the wiki pages.

Ritu,

Personally I don't know of any SA specific resources,
but I wonder if organizations such as
- Manavi (SA women's organization in NJ area),
- NAMI (NAMI.ORG)

I have a couple of other links of previous
conferences:

1. South Asian health symposium: Alcohol and mental
health issues among Asian Indian Americans:
Perspectives from New Jersey --- located at
http://apha.confex.com/apha/132am/techprogram/paper_85102.htm

2. South Asian Public Health Association (SAPHA), I
am sure has some resources listed.

Most of these organizations have their own public
forums via email. If you have not already joined
them, you can and raise the same question.

I will raise the question on one of the local NY/NJ
email list. Will keep updated.
