Hi All!

Here is a summary of our meeting.  We had two separate meetings due to scheduling.

Participants:
Alluru
Dwivedi
Murphy
Rosewater
Sahoo
Saraiya
Shah, Nirav
Shastri

1.  Overall Project Plan...

Discussion:
- our ultimate goal is to study the population (either epidemiological study or a longitudinal study... but before we do that we will have to understand the status of current research.
- there was a lot of discussion about how to best do the study-- should it be local (NJ area only,
- we can't focus on all of the subjects due to the fact that we don't have enough (wo)man power.

Outcome:
- we agreed to review only a limited number of topics that seemed to be of the most interest (so, I have created a resource table (Name, Email address, clinical interest, Qualifications)).  Please see attached,   Fill in your interests and qualifications so we can form smaller teams.
- Current topics are: DM, DM Complicating ESRD, Cancer Prevalence, COPD, HIV (note that some of the topics may not be well studied, but that is important to note).
- we definitely have to understand how to design the epidemiological study.  We can use resources that are available (CDC, NHANES).  But that will have to done as a separate task.

What you need to do:
Please fill in the database (with your information and send me in an email (not as a reply to this email).  I will relay the information to the rest of the group.

2.  Distribution of responsibilities
Discussion:
- we would need more than one person to do any selected task as we all will be busy at some point and time.

Outcome:
-  we need to work in teams of two to three across various years (R1, R2, R3, Fellow etc,) on each topic that we select

What you need do:
1. Please indicate on the interest what topics you are interested in, and once we have the information, you can form a smaller group and work on the project.
2. Get familiar with Ovid and how to use it.  If you are not, you can go to the library or call me.

3.  Organizational Plan
Discussion:
- everyone at some point and time was worried about we would need more than one person to do any selected task as we all will be busy at some point and time.

Outcome:
- resolution: we would need to work in teams of two to three across various years (R1, R2, R3, Fellow etc,)

What you need do:
1. Please indicate on the interest what topics you are interested in, and once we have the information, you can form a smaller group and work on the project.
2. Get familiar with Ovid and how to use it.  If you are not, you can go to the library or call me.

4.  Resources Needed
Discussion:
- There was a good amount of time spent on finances and other resources.
- everyone at some point and time was worried about we would need more than one person to do any selected task as we all will be busy at some point and time.

Outcome:
- We will have to generate a list of resources needed.
- Few that we have already identified (chronological order):
---  Visionaries (wait, that's all of you!)  - think of ideas, questions you want answered
---  Statistician to help us design a population study
---  Identify people who have worked on large studies like this (this may be outside of the institution).
---  Additional personnel to do the review of the research
---  Database Programmer
---  Someone to help us form a Non Profit Organization
---  Persons with Fund Raising Skills
---  someone with finance/tax background to keep our organization's books.

- we will also eventually have to worry about the funding of the project, but the costs initially will be low (ONLY costs should be copying the articles etc.).  Let me know, what the costs are, it will help me develop a budget.

What you need do:
Please indicate other personnel who are interested in our vision and believe in it..  There will always be a role for everyone.

5.  Future Plans
Discussion:
- We will start the work now.  Please see my previous email about how to use the Ovid Personal Account (login; aihri; password: aihri1).  And start looking at the articles.

Outcome:
I spoke to Dr. Sharma who stated that this will be considered a scholarly activity/research for those who are interested.

What you need do:
If you do not know how to use Ovid, talk to the librarian or call me.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HAS TO BE VALUABLE TO ALL OF US TO MAKE IT INTERESTING, YOU WILL LEARN A LOT BY PARTICIPATING.

Please share your ideas.

Sincerely,

Biren
