As you know, on December 1, 2010, two union members climbed the arch in front of the GM Daewoo Plan in Byupyeong and began a high-altitude sit-in protest, demanding union recognition, reinstatement of dismissed workers and regularization of irregular workers. They have now been living and protesting on the arch for 48 days, despite the terrible cold and acts of repression by the GM Daewoo management. The President of the Irregular Workers Chapter has also been conducting a hunger strike, which is now in its 29th day. These protest acts come in the wake of several court decisions recognizing irregular in-house subcontracting workers like those at GM Daewoo as entitled to regularization and a valiant struggle for regularization by in-house subcontracting workers at the Hyundai Motors plant in Ulsan.
The courageous GM Daewoo workers desperately need your solidarity.
