Hi mamas! After 9m of nursing Rhea with no issues (and 17m with Kaia!), I'm suddenly experiencing the worst pain in my life in one nipple while nursing. It's excruciating, and strongest right when she latches on. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone have a lactation consultant they can recommend? I'm trying to avoid nursing on that side but am left with very uneven boobs and an unsatisfied baby!!

Hi Mili,

Google "nipple thrush" and see if your symptoms match? I had it a few times and it can cause sudden pain like what you are describing (a burning type pain.) Maybe the cause?

Also, I used Freda Rosenfeld with both of my boys and she was amazing :)

Good luck!

Hi!

I had great luck at the Bend and Bloom nursing circle. Less personal than someone that comes to your house but very inexpensive--can be a great supplement to a personal visit too. Was a lifesaver for me.

Best of luck!

Totally a yeast infection. Is your nipple a little pink and shiny? I had it when Henry was 5 months and it was excruciating. I called a lactation consultant and she said she thought it was yeast. I called my midwife and they called in an all purpose nipple ointment. It was magic. Cleared up in a few days though you need to keep using it for a couple weeks. Also make sure you wash your bras in hot hot water.
Call your OB ASAP!
