hi, i got this from the "report a problem" link for a sage 4.2. virtual image:

"command animate doesn't work : message is "ImageMagick not installed"."

Should we keep an eye on installing additional packages? Or should we
include an explanation how to install something additionally?

@olivier: "apt-get install imagemagick" in a terminal might do the trick.

I don't know what to do with this since it is too vague? Are they
talking about the sage_vbox virtual image? Then there is no apt-get,
since that's based on puppy linux... and meant to be very small. I
could build imagemagick and it though, I guess.

Hmm...It's reasons like this that make me want to vote for staying with
a minimal ubuntu install for the vbox installation.

Please go for it! I would love to distribute one. I don't want to
make it myself though.

I may do one sometime before the end of the year, to set up a Sage
server for our campus.

Thanks,

Please note that sage_vbox is not just like one you get by installing
ubuntu into a virtual machine. It uses squashfs and unionfs to
provide a GUI + all of Sage + GCC in only 700MB after the zip archive
is uncompressed. In theory doing something similar with Ubuntu might
be possible. However, naively creating a similarly equipped Ubuntu
image will be around 4GB uncompressed, which is probably not a good
idea for most people.

Okay. Before I start, I'll ping you to get details.

Thanks,

Jason

Here is Oliver's way how to install it:

That's done, and command 'animate' works well in SAGE 4.2 notebook !

The easiest way is :

1) Within VirtualBox, use the integrated web navigator SeaMonkey to go
at :

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45981

2) download the two packages :
ImageMagick-6.5.6-10.pet
ImageMagick_DEV-6.5.6-10.pet

and in dialog, choose : open with petget

3) installation is automatic.
