Hi

I tried to install sage 9.4 on a computer with windows 10 Pro version 21H1 and Intel Xeon CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00GHz   2.00 GHz. After installing I get to this error:

Unhandled SIGILL: An illegal instruction occurred. This probably occurred because a compiled module has a bug in it and is not properly wrapped with sig_on(), sig_off(). Python will now terminate.

How exactly did you try to install, and what exactly did you run to
get the error?

For install I execute SageMath-9.3-Installer-v0.6.3.exe (Download from MIT mirror) with windows defender turn Off, the install not show any mesaje of error but when start SageMath Notebook or SageMath, the program start... seconds after the console print the mensaje abaut the error and close the windows or the server.

The server open jupiter but when I create a new document and select sage Kernel then the console server print Error 404 and close the server.

Hi!

I just installed sage on win 10. I can second that there's something perhaps not intended going on. First, i'm new to sage.

I have three shortcuts that got included in my start menu after installation of sage (sage 9.3/ a shell/ a notebook). None of them brngs up any prompt (as i see in the guides) where i can input 2+2 to get 4. Infact, when i try to start sage notebook,  the task manager shows that win defender gets active and then the program vanishes. Is it getting killed by windows? Or am i making some nooby mistake? In connection to OP's post, i get shown no error messages.

It'd be very helpful if someone can kindly confirm the scenario.

I would suggest to visit Windows Defender settings
and declare Sage as safe there. Then start Sage again.

Or uninstall Sage, reinstall it, adjust Windows Defender
settings to declare Sage as safe, then start Sage.

Hope this works for you.   --Samuel

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried adding sage (pointing to mintty.exe in <user dir>\AppData\SageMath9.3\Local\runtime\bin and the whole directory SageMath9.3) to exclusions, but to no avail. I also tried disabling Windows Defender (Real time & Cloud delivered & Tamper protections, all 3 off) to see if sage runs, but this too does not help.

I see in task manager that while the prompt "Please wait while the Sage Jupyter Notebook server starts..." is shown, registry, python3, and Microsoft OneDrive comes up. And then everything closes.

Is there any logfile that stores possible errors?

On a different note, i also tried to install sage in lubuntu (ubuntu with lxde desktop) where the prompt interface works, but i can't bring up a plot of sin(x). But i think it may be more appropriate to open a different question along with the relevant errors.
