Just FYI - if you get or have access to the College Mathematics
Journal (an MAA publication), there is a book review of Stan Wagon's
"Mathematica in Action", 3rd ed., which devotes a fairly lengthy
afterword to the issue of price of the M's and introduces Sage.

The Sage website is referenced, as is a talk of William's from 2007
from which he gets the estimates that there are 2 million Mma users, 1
million Maple users, and 5 million MATLAB users.

Anyway, just putting it out there. Not sure if it belongs on the
publications page, though :)
