ok, even though I'm known for being extremely methodical and a linear
thinker and all...

I came across this:

http://code.google.com/apis/protocolbuffers/docs/pythontutorial.html

which appears to be part of Google's larger plan for dealing with
distributed systems with the outside world...

but, there are pages about talking to Java and C++... and apparently
strategies for dealing with the protocols...

hmmm....

ever heard of these google guys?

Haven't heard of the distributed computing stuff from Google, but I
did investigate their data APIs---in particular, their Finance Data
APIs. It's all XML-based.

I was thinking about tinkering with it and getting it to pull some
historical data, solving the Stock.historical() issue that William
brought up.
