Installing sage.lzma file

Hello everyone,

I recently downloaded the latest *.lzma file for 32bit Ubuntu and
renamed it sage.lzma. I copied it to /usr/local and extracted it with
this commandline:
tar --lzma -xvf sage.lzma
I renamed the new directory "sage" and added the path "/usr/local/
sage" to the /etc/environment file.

Now when I type "sage" in a terminal, I get all sorts of errors about
the installation having been moved. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I need this sort of install in a PC Lab without internet access and I
can't setup a local sage server right now.

Run sage as root for the first time.
This will fix the installation issues, in my experience.

Thanx, I forgot about that! However, I did run ./sage as root and got
a ton of new errors!

Could it be that this *.lzma file is for 32bit Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm
trying to run it on 32bit Ubuntu 11.10 and 64bit Ubuntu 11.04?

When I run it on 32bit Ubuntu 11.10 I get:

Yup, that is definitely the reason. Unfortunately we do not have a lot
of 32-bit systems to build on, so the only 32-bit Ubuntu-based binary we
have at the moment is for Ubuntu 12.04... Oddly, on the other hand, we
don't have any 64-bit Ubuntu-based binary for as recent an Ubuntu
version as 12.04, for some reason.

(And as David says, this thread would probably be better off in
sage-support :) )

I'm on sage-support now. However, I wonder if there's any ftpsite out
there with an older version of the lzma file? I don't need the latest
sage-5.0 version. I'm just using basic calculus features in a final
project for my AP Calculus BC students. Is there, say, a version
sage-4.8 for 32bit Ubuntu 11.10?

I would ask on sage-support if I were you.
This list is really more about using sage for teaching, than
about problems installing sage.
