Hi,

If you read Spanish, you might enjoy reading this aritlce that was
written by a mathematician in Mexico right after Mathematica
visited his university to make a presentation. It mentioned Sage
a lot at the end:

http://sums.math.mcgill.ca/~jordi/rants/mathematica.html

Here's a Google Translated version to English, which is enough
to understand most of the article:
http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsums.math.mcgill.ca%2F%7Ejordi%2Frants%2Fmathematica.html&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8

This is a very good article. Since he seems to be a fan of SAGE, I
wonder if he would be willing to provide an English version of this
paper so that it could be placed on the SAGE website?

Agreed. Even linking the Spanish version is a good idea I think.

Actually, when I asked him for permission to post the link to sage-devel,
he specifically said "as long as you don't make me translate it to English".
So, if there is anybody out there who knows Spanish and would like to
do a translation, please speak up.

It would be nice to know the name of the author of this article - how
strange that it isn't included in the rant, and all I get from
exploring is "tirinanana?"

:-) The author is
Jordi Gutierrez Hermoso

If you want to email him, you can find his email in the sage-devel
archives (he's subscribed to sage-devel).

I wouldn't mind translating it. I may not have time for a few days, but
it's not that long, so I should be able to have it pretty soon (say,
before next Tuesday). What format should I put it in?

This is great. Thank you very much. If Jordi would allow it,
perhaps one could just have Jordi's orginal Spanish on top of the
page and the lower half could be your html English translation?

There should be a warning on this article. I was drinking milk when I
read "supported by the megalomania of Stephen Wolfram" and I almost
snorted it out of my nose.

Nice article. I'll be at CIMAT next July I think, Jordi if you're
reading this I look forward to meeting you if you'll still be there.

I'll tape an English version of this to my office door.

Hi,

The author of the original article just told me he made an
English translation himself:

Hi. I wrote it.

Er, the "tirinanana?" thing is very inside joke. I probably should
just make that index.html a plain 403.

I also translated it yesterday under my nom de guerre, Swap, as
mentioned by Will Stein:

Still snorting?

Remember this:
http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1910247

Today I found:

http://www.math.usf.edu/~eclark/ANKOS_reviews.html

Shedding more light on Wolfram's ANKOS.

The first review on that list at http://www.cscs.umich.edu/~crshalizi/reviews/wolfram/
is absolutely hilarious. I also read the amazon reviews of ANKOS and
Wolfram gets a new one ripped by nearly all of the reviews on the
first three pages. Tellingly the Mathematica Wikipedia article carries
the warning "This article or section is written like an
advertisement."
