Dear Sage developers,

One of the common themes that came out of the Community Survey this summer was some dissatisfaction with our governance model.  Personally, I agree with much of the criticism: I think that relying on sage-devel votes as our only codified mechanism for making decisions about the project is unwieldy.  I’d like to start a discussion about what alternatives might look like.

I've created a new list, sage-government at googlegroups.com, which is open for anyone to join.  The purpose of having a separate list from sage-devel is to encourage people interested in participating to opt in and then contribute to the discussion, rather than lurking.  To be clear, the outcome of this discussion will hopefully be a proposal for a new governance structure that will be brought to sage-devel for a vote.  The creation of this list does not change anything about how decisions are made for the project.

I plan to send some initial emails to the new list in about a week, though the history in the group will be visible if you don't end up joining until later.

Here's a functional link to join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/sage-government.  Sorry for the broken link!

Hi Sage developers,
There was some discussion shortly after this discussion list was created, but not much has been happening for many months. In an effort to make some progress we're organizing Zoom discussions, starting with
* Tuesday September 16 at 12pm US Eastern (=9am US Pacific, 5pm British summer time, 6pm Central European summer time, 7pm Eastern European summer time, 1am Wednesday Japan Standard Time)
* Friday September 19 at 11:30am US Eastern (=9:30am US Pacific, 4:30pm British summer time, 5:30pm Central European summer time, 6:30pm Eastern European summer time, 12:30am Saturday Japan Standard Time).
You are welcome to join the discussion even if you haven't signed up for the email list, and there's no commitment implied.  Here is the Zoom link for both meetings.

I've started creating an agenda here; the document is editable by anyone so feel free to contribute.
David
