Your assignment for Thursday is to imagine the World of Forms is real.
Given that, pick one thing in the world that you would want to know
the pure form of fully. Tell me what that thing is and why that would
be the pure form that you would choose to know.

Good luck! I can't wait to hear your responses!

If the philosophy that there is another world outside with the same objects and feelings is true, then I would say that I will pick music as something I would like to know in its full pure form. Since there is more to everything in the outside world, music probably has a bigger role in it too. What I want to know is what the power and the effect of music in the new world. What is music's point (why would music exist there?) If a shadow of a tree has little perpose compared to a living tree that is home to many creatures who effect us in the environment we live in (ex. shelter) and the food chain in which we take part in, what is music's role in the pure world. It has to be sooo much more! My biggest question now is if we are supposed to see the pure world and its ways, how do we do that, and if anyone knows what they are (all that knowledge is), tell me. Do we ''have'' to know what the outside world is and if we have to learn it on our own, tell me what there has to be done in order to gain that knowledge?  ''What must I do?''

I would like to know my own true form because my belief is that
universal knowledge is in your soul. Like we said in class, we already
know things and I think that's why. So if I knew myself purely, I
maybe could be able to see the truths inside myself that were always
there.

For me, I would like to know the true form of my own shadow. Sure,
it's there when you are and is just a thing you notice subconsciously.
I just wonder why we have shadows and what the purpose of them are.
There's different explanations based on different notions but there
isn't a definite answer as to why. Maybe there's a possibility if we
know what our shadows have to do with us and vice versa we can
possibly know ourselves in our most genuine form.

If I were to see any true form I would want to see my own. I would want to see my own because I feel that I can't reach my full potential in life unless I know everything about myself. Also I believe that the only way one can truly live is if they are true to themselves; how can I be true to myself if I don't know my pure form?

Kendall,

I think you did an excellent job with this entry. You chose a very
interesting pure form to learn about and you asked extremely
insightful questions. I think that your question about why music would
need to exist in the world of the forms is intriguing. Logically, I
find it hard to define why exactly we need art and music in our world,
or why it is important, and I think you're right - it must be even
more important in the world of the forms!

As for knowing the pure world, that is something that comes to each
person in their own way. There is no formula for gaining this
knowledge. Keep reading, and keep questioning, and eventually you'll
reach your own conclusions about the truth of the forms.

Great job!

I would like to know the pure form of the human mind. I believe that when the mind is allowed to use all of it's potential it can do incredible things. There are people that use larger percentages of their mind than others and show amazing talents and abilities. I like to imagine that a pure human mind using all of it's potential could be capable of things we can't imagine. My mind is the only place I find comfort, so if I could use all of my mind and have it be pure, I could answer all of my life time troubles and problems in a single thought.

I hope this is what you were looking for, this was my understanding of the assignment. If it's wrong you can spin kick me or whatever you choose, up to you.

Justice- The idea that things have a consequence? Every action man
makes, he has a set of rules he must abide by. I would like to learn
about this because I do think it is something that is very
interesting!

Lexie,

Wow! What a unique perspective! I especially like how you took it the
step further to realize that since you already possess all knowledge,
knowing yourself fully should reveal the truth within you.

Great job, keep thinking about what knowing your pure self would
really mean: would it contain all the memories that you've ever had?
What would that do to your understanding of yourself and your actions?

Stephen,

Very interesting. What do you mean by your shadow? Are you talking
about the physical shadow? Or the shadow as it relates to Plato's
Cave? For example, would you be the form that is walking down the path
who's shadow is being cast by the fire in the cave? If so, what do you
hope to learn about your own shadow?

Keep thinking!

Christine,

Great insights. I agree that knowing yourself is a huge step towards
reaching your potential. What do you think you could accomplish if you
knew your pure form? How would knowing your pure form enhance your
life?

Just some stuff to think about...

No spin kicks necessary; you got the idea.

What do you think you could accomplish if you had perfect knowledge of
the mind? Do you think it's possible that if you understood your mind
perfectly that it would no longer be a place of comfort, a place you
could retreat to?

Keep going!

I think it would be a very interesting world if everyone understood
Justice perfectly. I mean, would we be bound by these ideas? or would
people be able to ignore it just like they ignore a sense of morality?
Would we know exactly how bad actions should be punished? If you were
the only one who had a perfect idea of Justice, how would you use that
knowledge to change the world?

Great job!

The questions you ask are very complex in my opinion. If I could have it my way, justice would be within all of us, just as emotions exist without a way to entirely suppress them completely. So let's say that it was like how I would want it, I believe it would make our world a place where we always and automatically resort to justice for everything. That would mean revenge would no longer be a motive because we would proceed to find ONLY justice. Quite frankly, I do not really understand what justice entails, whether its one thing or multiple. I don't believe any of us could answer what it would be with a definitive answer. We just can't possibly know what and how the effects would change the world, if at all.

One of the things i would like to know the pure form of would
definitely be dogs because i would like to now if they act nice
because they have no knowledge or ability to survive on their own or
if they are truly smart animals that are kind heated if i knew i
probably would move to Spain ad change my name to Doug so i could
start a public access tv show and become a dog whisperer which would
then greatly succeed and become the dog king of new jersey
