# News from SageMath, the Sage Mathematics Software System!

## New releases

SageMath 9.2 was released on 2020-10-24.

My apologies for not sending a timely announcement.

The source files and the binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows
have made their way to the download mirrors.

CoCalc and SageCell have upgraded.

## Python 3

The big news is that SageMath 9.2 is Python 3 only.
Support for Python 2 was dropped in this release.

For more on the switch to Python 3, see:

- "Python 3 switch" page on the SageMath wiki

## For more timely announcements

Apologies for belated announcements of the last few releases.
Please reach out if you would like to take over sending the
announcements to sage-announce.

Other options for learning about new releases:

- The sage-manifolds mailing list is relatively low-traffic and
usually has a timely announcement of each new Sage release.

https://sympa.obspm.fr/wws/info/sagemanifolds.list

- New releases of SageMath and Sage-Windows get posted to GitHub
which offers the option to get notified for each new release.

- https://github.com/sagemath/sage-windows/releases

To get notified of new releases, sign up to GitHub and subscribe
to the release alerts by visiting the appropriate repository,
clicking "Watch", "Custom", and checking the "Releases" checkbox.

Thank you for your interest in SageMath!
