Testing and conf files

Hi all! I'm studying engineering and as part of a project i have to install and configure a service. From the list that they give us I chose Sagan.
I've been already in:

https://sagan.quadrantsec.com/

I'm 95% sure I've done it well but I still have doubts about the configuration files and how to start the syslog daemon.  I don't know either how to do the testing.

I just need to do a simple test after installing and configuring the service proving that  works.

Any help will be apreciated.
