Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness to inform you of Phiroshaw Camay’s passing on Saturday 1st October.  He suddenly suffered a heart attack on Saturday 24th September, was hospitalised but unfortunately never recovered until his passing.  He was buried on Sunday 2nd.  He will greatly be missed by us at CORE.

Dear Florence
Sad new indeed.  He was one of the most decent, humble  and dedicated servant of the people I have met.  I heard about it but given the timing could not pay my last respects.  Heard a memorial service was being planned.  Please do keep us all posted.

Regards
Gino

I agree with Gino. Cde PC’s passing is devastating. Wrote this short obit. on my Wall:

Very saddened by Phiroshaw Camay's sudden passing. I first met comrade Camay in my early teens when he was the librarian at the Fordsburg library later closed down because of the Group Areas Act. Comrade Camay then became the secretary general of the Council of Unions of South Africa (CUSA) and then the National Council of Trade Unions (NACTU). Comrade PC as we called him, appointed my older brother Hanif Vally and Cyril Ramaphosa to the legal unit of CUSA. Comrade PC was also a member of the National Forum Committee in the early 80s. I last met cde Camay at the recent Jozi Book Fair. He was keen that I interview him and we made arrangements to meet. Comrade PC, I'm sorry we did not have that last conversation but your story and your important contributions to our country will be told. Heartfelt condolences to his son Hormuz Camay and the rest of the family.
