Rocky man crushed to death
UPDATE 2.35pm: POLICE say the 37-year-old man who was crushed to death was working in a large workshop building when a steal beam on an overhead gantry crane came loose from its rails and fell on him.
The Morning Bulletin received reports the beam crushed him at the waist.
Rockhampton District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Ralph Faria said the man was on a higher levelled platform before the incident happened.
He said other employees were in the building when the beam fell but were not injured.
An overhead travelling crane has the ends of the supporting beam resting on wheels running on rails at a high level.
UPDATE 12pm: A 37-year-old Rockhampton man has been killed, crushed to death by a crane at a North Rocky industrial work site this morning.
Rockhampton District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Ralph Faria said the man died instantly when the crane fell on top of him.
The accident happened at the Australian Reinforcing Company site in Richardson Road in North Rockhampton just after 8am.
Emergency services and workplace health and safety officers are investigating how the crane fell.
The family of the man have just been notified of the tragedy.
BREAKING 9.25am: A man has been seriously injured by industrial machinery at a Rockhampton work site this morning.
Emergency services are on site.
