Hi all!

I just found out about Safecast from a tech nonprofit job board. It looks like this is mostly a volunteer-based organization.

I am a software developer with ~3 years of experience in web/SAAS. I have a history of working in Ruby / Rails, Golang, TS/JS, and Postgresql. I currently work at a company with an enormous database (several tables with more than a billion rows) and among my duties at this job are optimizing queries and data migrations for large data sets.

I live in Colorado, U.S. and I actually live near an area called Rocky Flats which was the site of nuclear events in the 50's and 60's. I have visited Japan and I loved it there.

I saw that there are needs for rails / SQL developers, so I thought I would see if my services could be useful. I already do a little IT volunteering for a local zero-waste grocery store, so I don't have a lot of time to volunteer, but I do have some.

I don't have very much knowledge of embedded software engineering but it's an area I would love to learn more about.

If someone has a project that I could help with, let me know! Thank you.

Dyson,

Thanks for reaching out to us. If you want to learn more about embedded systems, the best way would be to get an bGeigieZen kit and build one yourselves. You can order the kit at at https://bgeigiezen.safecast.jp . That kit use M5StackCore3 (ESP32S3) that we program with VSCode/VSCodium or Antigravity and Platformio.

Just wondering where did you see the rails/SQL information?

Warm regards
Rob Oudendijk

Hi Rob

Thanks for your response!

I found that info on this job board: https://jobs.ffwd.org/companies/safecast/jobs/76912548-devs-sql-postgresql-postgis#content
and then confirmed on the Safecast website: https://safecast.org/join-us/

It sounds like you don't need Rails/SQL folks after all?

Dyson,

Not sure who posted that and why. We have 12-year-old software running on AWS that could use your skills. Currently, we have a volunteer from Safecast who works for Amazon taken care of the older software. If you are interested in that we could use your help. These days we solve most issues with some vibe coding that get the things done way faster than dedicated programmers.

Warm regards,
Rob Oudendijk
