Hi everyone,

Just a quick update: I have started on a simple "Onyx Visualiser" web app, that interfaces with the device on the serial port, and will eventually display its log, live data the day it's implemented, and already lets you run a few diagnostics (see screenshots attached).

It runs in a browser, and relies on a very small "node.js" application that does the serial-to-socket bridge. This means that it should run on pretty much any computer. I'm currently considering turning it into a Chrome packaged app, which will give me in-browser access to the serial port at the cost of being browser-dependent. Any thoughts?

I'll post this to my github account shortly.

     And here it is: https://github.com/elafargue/onyxviewer

Check it out, do a "npm install" then "node server.js". You should then connect to localhost:8080 using a browser (tested on Chrome, Firefox should work, no idea about IE), go to "Settings" and input the name of the serial port. Go back to the main screen, click on "Connect", and as soon as it turns green, you can then either run diags (time sync, display test), or display the logs (see screenshot).

Let me know if this is useful to you, and what you would like to see!

Ed

PS: and looking at the screenshot below, can you tell where I was when I was working on this software ?

Hi Ed-
Someone was working on a plane! This is very cool! Would it be OK with
you if we blogged it so other people could play with it too?

One request (that we've learned the hard way) - Using the Safecast
logo confuses a lot of people into thinking it was made by Safecast.
Could you tweak that a little bit so it's clear that you made this for
use with Safecast devices, but that it wasn't made by Safecast?

Thanks!

  Hi Sean,

Glad you like it :) Sure, blog away, the goal is to make this available to everyone and turn it into something useful for the community!

I totally understand about the logo, I will remove it in my next commit.
