Hello,
My first power up test while building this kit WAS functioning as described in manual for approx 2 minutes ,then just died- no LEDS or display -

It does have 4V at batt input

I now notice that when turned on ,the processor of the Arduino gets very hot,I can feel through it's fiberglass board. Still no LED or display.

Any testing process I can perform?

Thank you,
Jake

Hi Jake,

1. Disassemble the kit and inspect the board very carefully for soldering issues like, shorted pins. Compare with high res pictures from the internet.
2. If there is no issue, recheck every single part. It is easy to put a resistor in the wrong position. Check the orientation of diodes.
3. If you can't find the problem go back to 1. Most probably something went wrong at assembly and maybe something died because of that but first we need to identify the root caus.

If you provide high res pictures of your board, we might take a look at it

Regards
Holger

In order to help others that may encounter something similar, please note that there was a very tiny bit of solder under the power switch that was causing occasional shorting. This was difficult for the Safecast team to diagnose. Good reminder to have a magnifying glass!
