Curious if anyone can confirm the Safecast layer data on the tile map page (https://safecast.org/tilemap/).  It hasn't been updated since 23rd yet it is up-to-date within the Safecast iPhone app.  I've tried from multiple browsers.  Am I missing something?

Yes, every few months the servers need maintenance and it takes a few days for everything to catch up, we only know about it after it happens.

i know the problem, if u want to plan ur next move and ur data is not accepted and transfered (allways make shure u fill out everything, Name City direction Hight and type of drive, and that u have is subbmited (sometimes ur data dont get added, cuz something important is missing in the form) , u can use this link to add ur drives to show them on the map example:
http://safecast.org/tilemap/?y=50.65&x=8.114&z=11&l=1&m=0&logids=35884,35882,
<---- with a ,logid u can add multiple drives

example : ....... &logids=35884,logid,logid,logid,

that enables u to view the actual map with ur drives until they get accepted and finaly find theyr way into the worldmap.

It's happening again, the last map update was 10 days ago.

Could this file be reviewed, It has been around a while.  I rejected it myself and submitted again hoping it would be picked up.
Thank You.

I have records that are stationary readings but all are within previous samples so I do not submit them because.?  Am I saving bits, wasting space or its just data and ok?

Hi Richard-

This log hasn’t been submitted. You need to hit “submit for approval” before it shows up in our moderation queue. Right now it’s just “processed” which means the system knows the log is the correct format.

This is a good reminder for everyone, if you don’t hit the “Submit for approval” button after you’ve added metadata it hasn’t actually been submitted.

Thanks!

would be nice if u can program that part for urself, its allways annoying, if u get on the api page,
and it starts not in ur contry the map, and it not starts with ur measurements but worldwide, and  u dont have the option to save ur edings,
for me height and position and methode is allways the same, same goes for my name, but u allways have to check the buttons to insert the text..  in the end the read the city names traveled by from the map is the most time catsching part for me, well i guess not many people drive around like me so that point dosent count realy...

problem is, people find easy the Upload part, but then they think they are finished, cuz the problem is in the Webdesign, there should be a move to next page to next to next page option until u hit the aproval button but instead switsch u back to ur page ur measurements, it goes to Global again.....

pls consider some personalisation options for this page, lots of funktions only generate unnessesary Traffic, as example u dont need to view what the world is uploading, 2 times with all ur uploads, an option to make your stuff mandatory would be nice...

PS sorry for my bad englisch

Hi, my last data approval (2735116171356.log) was on 2018-11-7.

The next day I could see it in the mclean.tar.gz file.

But when I look today at the Safecast tilemap webpage, the tiles are not updated with that data yet, although the date shown on the webpage is 2018-11-14!

Could that be right?

I see the same behavior.

All my logs since 12th October have been approved and according to the process log been added to the data base but don't show up on the world map.

Thank you.

As we’ve mentioned before sometimes the server sticks and on this end it appears to still be generating files but it doesn’t include new data. We rely on the community to let us know when this happens. We’ve kicked the box, turned it off and on again, and everything should be back to normal within the next 24h cycle.

aproval dosent mean its imedeatly online, it only means it flows into the Chache, the server need a reset mor or less, i allso noticed, that the line sometimes comes in different zoom lvls.. bit by bit, until its present in al zoom lvls... can take a few days someday..

I'm totally fine with that. I am new to the project, so I am probably asking questions that have been answered in the past already. I don't want to push anyone. Just thought, that after approval the data would show up quicker and I did something wrong or my data were somehow not usable.

Thanks.

If you download and install the Safecast App on your PC or Mac you will probably see the updated map after you go to Layer|Update Safecast Data...  and perform the update.

The server needs a harder kick! The 24h cycle has passed without the data showing up in the tiles...

The server is currently being worked on. Many of the new tiles have been generated, some have not.

Please remember this is a volunteer run non-profit project running on largely donated server space. While we get free server space from the likes of Amazon and MIT, we do not have the staff or resources of Amazon or MIT, so finding problems and fixing them sometimes takes a few days.

Donations are always welcome to help with infrastructure.

My data are still not showing up on the map.
For example #31261014 ( https://api.safecast.org/en-US/bgeigie_imports/38840 ), uploaded on Oct. 14th got approved some weeks later. The server got kicked/restarted/worked on and fixed on Nov. 29th. Still none of my logs are on the map.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if my data are wrong or missing some important pieces? I don't want to push anyone, just want to highlight that there is still something not working as it should.

Thanks
Holger :-)

Hi Holger.

I just looked and the log you are asking about is on the map, you can see it here:

Are you talking about the map on the web, or a mobile device? If you are using the Safecast App on IOS you have to manually refresh the data.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

I'm talking about the safecast data layer of the map on the web.  You are right, if I add the log ID at the end of the link, it is there but if I just klick on the MAP link on the safecast website it's not there. Compare these two:

Shouldn't it be in the data layer? What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your kind support!
Holger

These measurements seem pretty likely to be part of the drive.

Hard to pick out the others exactly since there are a number of other measurements in the area, but https://api.safecast.org/en-US/bgeigie_imports/38840 reports lines == measurements so it should all be there.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean.
The data on the left screenshot are from 2 different drives and one hike but happened on the same day. It seems the bgeigie creates one log file per day. So, if I do 3 different logs on one day, they are all in this one logfile.
However none of my uploaded data from October to now were on the safecast layers until 2018 12 05. With the 2018.12.06 update everything is there.
Did that just happen or did you fix something?

Thanks
Holger

The left screen there is the logid view so as far as the API is concerned it's one "import" (one file).

I forget the exact criteria on when the bgeigie cuts files. Could just be one per day though.

The tile generation is automated but I understand we had some trouble with the machine that does it. Unclear on details though since I don't usually work on the tiles.

Dear Holger,
the bGeigie creates one LOG file per day (except the case you let your device run overnight until the next day - then you have one LOG for 2 days) - we tested it.

We also often get combined LOG files containing measurements performed in different conditions but thanks to the Safecast QGIS plugin we can split the data in separate LOG files and upload them:

additionally we have some tutorials here:
(made using Google Translate so the figures remain in Czech and the translation is sometimes a little bit strange)

and some advanced tricks here:

regards

Jan
