Well you can all gaze upon the glory that is the new SafeHarborTV website.  We are still working on the look of it but it is up.  We plan to actually launch it on Feb 18.  There is going to be one short and two bumpers broadcast a week so we have about 6 months of content.  You should be able to subscribe to the podcast via iTunes or whatever podcatching software you have but more on that later.

We would like to have a little blurb about each director possibly detailing where you are, what you are doing, what you are working on now etc. etc...  and links to your website, youtube page, or whatever else.

Please let us know if you want anything included or if we are missing anything.

Check it out here:

Thanks and I hope that you all are doing wonderfully...

Morgan

rad, the site looks rad, the last quest thing didnt click through for me.  So I typed it in, and then rad again.  It looks really cool.  for my section maybe just link to my blog or website for now and I when I come home i can get more involved.

cool...

also, the trouble with unicorns page has a date, which is like six days from now...

whats going to happen?

Does anyone need any shots of Paris?  They could come in handy if your working on a sitcom or something.

my production is going well.  check it out, these are the links...

here is a rambling email for you all....

I'm sick.  So I've been laying around in bed taking it easy.  sweating and drinking water.  Gross.  I walked around a bit yesterday and shot some video.  Kind of a strange day really.  I waited around for almost two hours in a starbucks waiting for these americans with giant sized lattes to move from their chair so I could get a specific shot out the window.

40 years ago Godard shot out the same window onto the street below, for an establishing shot.  I walked all around paris looking for these places, and more often than not things have been destroyed, of course, time passes things die.  But it really sucks to see starbucks  selling starbucks muffins, starbucks bagels, starbucks chocolate with a specific view of paris that has been exported around the world as being part of something greater, mythical.  Paris is one of those places like new york, that when you see it you cant help but not be familiar with its look because of having seen it so many times.  You really cant help it.

then I was getting really sleepy, feeling shitty, and these other americans aproached me asking if I spoke english, then these English tourists at the Chatalet metro station started yapping loudly "Shat-Lit, Shat-Lit, Sounds funny!  HA HA, Get it SHAT SHAT!?" does anyone not know how to pronounce Chatalet?  Chatalet is a really good place to get your stuff stolen, so I can only hope that some hungry frenchman took their share.

sigh sigh sigh

I guess I should go back to watching south park,

i was dreaming of Seattle last night.  In my dream there was dumpster food and bicycles.

love forever

Do you want to upload the destinyist manifestos onto the last quest site?
I'll send you the text files...

I'm also working on a few new ones regarding 3d (computer) animation, and general movie making.

The site looks cool. How are you going to organize the bumper/short/bumper podcasts? Will they all be from different directors?
Will we be writing our own bios?

Yes yes yes.

I don't know Chris's full name so I wasn't able to add him.  So if you are reading this (or someone who remember's his full name) send it to me and I'll add him.

It would be great if everyone could write a bio that we could post.

We are going to put the bumper/short/bumper pretty much in order they were broadcast on television.

We are hoping to have a Drupal site up so that we can communicate as a group and get the party started again...

Does anyone remember the exact assignments for each episode?  I would like to post that somewhere as well...

With our hosting they ask you to have a home site which is thelastquest.org, and when we first made the site all of the automated things thought that we were making that site, but I am hoping to change all of that.  I just want to have a normal link to it somewhere.  I think it says "thelastquest" in the header in the internet application and there is some other lingering effects.  I think I can fix them.

thetroublewithunicorns.com might or might not actually be launched on the 18th, but SafeHarborTV is definitely going to go live on that date.

TO WILL:  Yeah, as a belated Christmas present we got thedestinyistmanifestos.org and were going to make a simple website devoted to them...  If you could send me the text that would expedite things alot.  I am about halfway through typing them and my fingers hurt.

I like it!
Vielen Danken!
Your energy and work is much appreciated.

Here is my bio:
____

Emily is excited by bizarre interactions and imagines playful stories about people when she sees a magic glint in their eyes.  Her videos are the translations of these playful stories, and secrets from her dreams.  She lives in Minneapolis right now, but will move back to her home, the pacific northwest, when she is done here.  Says Emily: the best thing about video is the way that anything can take the form of anything else, and time and space are altered.  The worst thing: lack of skin and touch.  She's going to massage school soon so that when she is not creating other worlds through glowing screens, she can connect with people in entirely different ways.

Emily would like to reclaim public space with you.  Let's work together for the installment of art in unexpected places.

I miss you all.  I am making something with footage I got in Berlin from an abandoned carnival.   'Tis almost done, there is something else that needs to be there though, and I just need to find it.  When I am done will there theoretically be a way to upload it directly to the safe harbor site?

Christopher Baldwin is his name.  He still lives in Olympia, although I'm not sure if he is still getting these emails.

I went back to the Google Groups page to collect all of the assignments we emailed to each other, and this is what I found in reverse chronological order:

  • assignment, part one:
go to a public place! And do, the following (with a little arrow, pointing
to right before "the" it asks "One of?" as if to say "One of? the following"
which makes me thing that maybe really you should be doing all these things)

    Find Something blue
ask someone if they are missing something
rub your skin against a texture you are not used to
put something that is important to you in the trash
    bring a camera with you

    Part two:
    Some Elements to include
    Foreign Language (not english)
    food preperation
    places of commerce
filming people staffing the service industry
filming all discernable manifestations of post consumption wast, by
    products, etc.
    Filming drunk people.

I came up with neither of these assignments, if I were to dictate to you my
commands, I would add, but dont trouble yourself with paying attention:

Make actors say something you've written!
call your shots: write a brief essay about all aesthetic decisions before
    shooting and editing begin.
  • Tell us a story that isn't true that is also a surrealist/impressionist
piece using only extreme close-ups.  Length is up to you, but must be edited
    for TV.
  • about: "...kids today- not runnin round naked high on mushrooms.
Always with the short hair, nice pants, monogamous relationships, so
    conservative..."
  • "Make a video about your favorite fruit. Must be longer than 4 min and may
not contain any imagery of eating. > Format: Stills only, no animation.
    > Problem: Make a narrative short. This should be as continuous as
    > possible... No text on screen except your name and title. No human voices.
  • Make a film that involves or about or containing a house.
  • No digital manipulation (color correction, blowing up etc).

Incorporate camera movement as a major aspect of the video.

Some kind of integrated motion (animation).

    Use text...  in the piece.
  • Edit a moving image to correspond with the song "Ever" by
    Flipper<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flipper_%28band%29>,
then remove the music, and either add other sound or use no sound.
For those who might not have this song, they can find it here:
    http://rapidshare.de/files/35178591/01_Ever.mp3.html
  • a) Under 5 mintues.

    b) The theme is "conflict without resolution" which can be interpreted
however you'd like, abstractly, at a distance, even time-wise: the
conflict can be from the past, present, future. But feel free to make
    the definition even more general.

    c) The following words need to be used in som capacity:
    under
    saw
    light
    tower
    fall
These words can be actual objects, they can be words spoken, they can
be part of other words such as "under" could be "underwear", or they
can be acted out as verbs, adjectives, etc.

    d) As a grup we added on one more thing, that you add one additional
constraint, the "wild card constraint" as we dubbed it. We'll probably
ask what your added constraint was at the nest meeting, so if you
didn't come up with one, make one up based on your movie. :)
  • Add the two digits of your birthday together.
They will result in a number between 1 and 9.
    1 & 2: Sunday
    3: Monday
    4 & 5: Tuesday
    6: Wednesday
    7: Thursday
    8: Friday
    9: Saturday
Now go to an online newspaper/newspaper database and search for the
    headlines for your designated day.
Now find the headline that corresponds with the number you got. (1-9)
This is the headline you will loosely base your movie on.
It may be any format as long as it can be transferred to TV.
    It must be three minutes.
Search any paper.  It must be from the correct day and it must be front
    page news.
Some papers charge to search past editions.
You can use weelky newspapers if they are released on your assigned
    day.

Example: Bob's birthday is on the 17th.  1+7=8.  He decides to search
the Podunk Review.  He would either wait for Friday to come around or
search the archives for a previous Friday and look for the 8th headline
    he sees.

  • Project One=  Project Won

    Time= less than 4 minutes

Constraints= mise en scene dominated by collor/repetition of subject
    and object/ frantic editing.

More Information= As for determining the color with which to dominate,
it shall be done as follows, if you were born in the first four months
of the year, you get yellow, second four, blue, third four red.

Awwwe memories!
