Yes yes yes, so this is sort of on the topic of putting our videos on youtube...
A friend of mine, Adisa is trying to start up some sort of internet tv
feed, or whatever you want to call it. The way it works is advertising
is inserted into the content, everytime a viewer watches an ad, he
gets money. He wants me to provide some of the content for the feed.
He was saying that the way it will work is he'll get a percentage of
the revenue from the ads and I'll get the rest. My idea is that we put
up safeharbor on his feed, and we split the money between ourselves...
It's an idea. If you all aren't into it then I'll just put my own
content on his feed, but, if we are into it then maybe we could all
make an extra hundred bucks or two.
For more information on Adisa, check out his bands website...

there's also a sample feed up right now.

Yeah, could do it ourselves, however he's already got a following, a large one, and he'll be doing all the work for us.

I would say lets just do it and see what happens.  It might be cool to have a couple of bucks but way cooler to see if something like that works to get your work our there in the world into the eyes of people that have eyes.  Also I want to start selling them out of my truck (I have a huge trunk) but I need copies of the tapes!!!!

Will I will do anything to get some dubs of those tapes!

I will bring them to work tomorrow and start dubbing them tomorrow. Send me a text message tonight to remind me.

Did anyone check out his website? His band is pretty fucking amazing, they consist of anywhere from 3-15 members, and they live in the bay, reno and kansas. Pretty fresh.

yeah let's do it! this motivates me to make more bumpers too, because
i think y'all have made more than me, and if we are splitting the
money equally, than it would only be fair if I contributed more. what
format should i send them in and where to?

I think it is a great idea to just get it out there. That was always my deal with SH- to get my work seen by as many others as possible. As long as I am not giving away ownership of the material why not put it our into ever media delivery system imaginable?

hi, so i gave a swing at opening a safe harbor mogulus channel to try it out...

http://www.mogulus.com/safeharbor

user name: safeharbor
password: zayger

i have to say i don't like it so far, the quality is pretty low, and the strange text overlay is disturbing, and it doesnt play back smoothly, cant seem to do a pause and load either.  Maybe these problems are only for the beta version.

hello from France!  this idea of a art project is under way and I'm still alive!

I spent the other day writing in the dirtiest cafe I could find in Rennes where there were dreadlocked frenchwomen, dogs, and communists shouting over Algerian hip hop.  I wrote a monologue which I'm in the process of typing up, my french is terrible, the bartender who has been flirting with my girlfriend shook my hand and gave me a sausage of peace.  Kind of gay, but not gay enough for me.

things I need from you:  love

thanks!

if you can, please provide love through more material means by find a way to send me a copy of dreamweaver or cluing me in to a new way to pirate things in the post oink world.

thanks

Hello in france, I got the tapes you sent me.
In other news. Morgan, I've been dubbing tapes for you at work. It's
really freaking out the squares, especially when Banana came on.
Yes indeed.

hey a couple of questions...

I've been fucking around with my camera, and I really like the way the image looks at 24p advanced, but is there a reason i should just shoot at 30p?

I'm not finding problems so far but I haven't tried outputting to dvd yet, and thought I might run into problems there.

thanks for the help, check out the small fruits of my labors via a slideshow...

i think it really depends on what kind of footage you are shooting.  24p is awful for any image where there are several straight lines , especially when you are panning over these horizontal or vertical lines.  for example when i was in intern the other interns and i did some tests right after we first got the dvx100a camera, where we went out onto red square and followed someone walking around on the bricks.  the lines of the edges of the bricks do this really strange jaggedy think that looks really bad, and stands out a lot once you capture it into the computer and start editing it.  i shot something on 30p knowing there would be alot of horizontal lines, and i liked that setting because it was a good inbetween.  peter randlette has more of a technical definition on why this happens.  on the other had i helped kate knappett with her sos project where i filmed her on a field, and the footage looked gorgeous, because there were lots of soft round shapes with sharply contrasting colors.  sophie butigan also has some interesting things to say about the dvx100a camera.

cheers!

These issues arise when footage captured incorrectly. Jed is your man on point with this as unicorns was shot with a dvx at 24p along with a wierd aspect ratio. And if you capture and export it right then no prob. As for 30p vs 24p... It is a personal choice. What you should really ask yourself is do you want to deal with the workflow issues that often arise with 24p?

Well in a week or so you will be getting a care package from me mr jones with various wierd goodies. Hopefully customs doesn't fuck with it...

I love the DVX.  You should be able to tackle all the technical issues that come along.  I have never had any problems with the DVX at 24p.  It seems the biggest problem is with the capture, and if I remember correctly it's just one setting that you change.  If this is for the remakes project (which I just saw the production blog!) then you should certianly go with 24p.  It might be the thing that really makes the look very similar to film, and don't worry about the technical headaches that might arise.  You will conquer them just like all of the other little technical things.

Thanks everyone.  I shot some tests the other day, 24p and non 24p, I ran into the capture problem but think that I can deal with that.  With final cut set to capture at 24pAdvanced, everything not shot 24pAdvanced needs rendering, the same with other settings.  Its normal.

I just got back to Paris tonight! I'll be here for a week, and then back for all of February.  This project is kind of intense.

i love you all

Jeremiah
