I wanted to give you a little update from New York, because I love you and I miss you. I hope that this email doesn't come across as confused or out of touch, but I wanted to say a couple things and hope to spark interest in a collaboration.
The east coast is susceptible to the slightest of our west coast charms. It is almost shocking to them.
I crashed a party the other week, these people had Salvidore Dali paintings; WEALTHY. They were like: "is that your Christmas tree in the living room?" and I'm like "yeah." they dealt with that pretty well. But then later, when I was taking off my clothes, they were UP-TIGHT. Totally square.
last night I hung out at Electronic Arts Intermix , and met a guy from Anthology Film Archives who say's I can get in for free now! This happened at a lecture on how to get your digital art seen by your desired audience. At this talk I felt a certain beat of anxiety. It's like having a crush on someone, and you feel confident in your crush, but when someone says go talk to that cutey, your heart skips a beat, and you aren't so sure anymore. But, i'm the sort who say's "OK, I'll go, but not without my friends."
So I wanted to write you. I thought maybe we should talk.
I want to make a proposal to to start a monthly cine club style video group based on the exploits of the infamous underground experimental lo-fi video art group Safe Harbor. The Brooklyn Museum has a theater which is growing thick with dust, after a meager once monthly use.
I have been attending a new group that is like a public-access-meets-ego-driven-new-yorker screening series which is interested in my safe harbor work, which means they would be interested in yours as well. It is crucial that one go in person to say 'hey, I'm here, I'm interested and this is what I'm doing," So I want you to send me your most shocking/new/challenging videos or films so that I can represent them to the curator. ("Curator" they call them here.)
My video 'To live' is playing at OFS tomorrow, and I would seriously appreciate a photograph, so if you are going, please take some photo's of the video playing on the screen, and the audience, if it's possible!!!! I'd love to see pictures, feel free to go up and claim any "gift certificates" on my behalf (although mine from last year never materialized,) or also to say that you are the """film maker""" at the door so you can get in for free!
Please tell me and everyone how your projects, jobs, travels are going! I want to know, and I think that the resources and ideas we come across in the next few years before grad school will make us or break us.
If anyone wants to talk about exhibition, education, or distribution, I am full of new ideas based on my closeness to this bizarre art economy.
FYI people are getting paid to do your hobbies, and they are getting their teeth taken care of, and they get to go to expensive yoga classes. Before you get money: The Manhattan Whole Foods is dumping infinite pounds of food in nice bags (for your consumption) and in Bushwick rentals are cheaper (not cheaper than mine, but they are without the added aggressive panhandling) and there are people looking for your videos!
and as always, there is room on my floor for you. If we ever get a couch, you can have that too.
Love
Jeremiah
PS your nothing without your friends. In fact: this is the only lesson they teach you at NYU, but don't tell anyone I told you so.
