Dear friends,

Every so often, Nazariya organises talk sessions with individuals who have been involved in queer activism (including but beyond 377) since decades. The idea came to us in 2015 when we received a donation of some old (now obscure) publications by queer collectives. Flipping through the books, we realised that younger folks, or those who haven't been much involved in queer activism, might have never heard about these collectives, the people involved, their challenges and the lives they have led.

The histories of our movement are vastly underrepresented and unrecorded. As generations of feminists and queer activists pass along, legacies are disjunctured and weakened. One of our objectives as Nazariya is also to preserve and record material from the past that create a history and legacy. A queer legacy will strengthen our movement and validate the existence of queer realities.

Through the Our Lives Our Tales series, we want to create a series of talks given by people who have lived queer lives and fought battles for the queer movement, as a way of preserving and passing along oral histories that might otherwise be lost with them.

As a part of the series, Nazariya is organising a conversation with queer journalists on their lives: How their careers in journalism impacted and was impacted by the rest of their lives as queer-identified persons, how their work and work life was affected by their sexual/gender identities, their experiences and thoughts on working with and witnessing journalism about queer issues, and more.

This time come and listen to :

1. Dhrubojyoti: Dalit queer rights activist and journalist
2. Georgina Maddox-
writer/curator who works with art and gender. She has been involved with journalism and activism for the last 15 years.
3. Sharif Rangnekar- a communication consultant, former journalist, writer/blogger and singer/songwriter with the land Friends of Linger
4. Shambhavi Saxena- features editor at Youth Ki Awaaz and Cake
