I hope you're doing well. I’m reaching out to provide a critical update on Bangladesh's ongoing extreme flood disaster and to call for urgent support and solidarity in these challenging times.
As of today, the floodwaters have claimed the lives of at least 13 people, including our dedicated 25-year-old volunteer, Saiful Islam Sagar, who tragically drowned while rescuing flood victims in Feni. Over 4.5 million people have been affected by the devastating floods caused by torrential rains. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has reported that nearly 190,000 people have been evacuated to emergency shelters, but the situation remains dire across 11 districts.

https://www.aljazeera.com/gallery/2024/8/23/deadly-floods-leave-millions-stranded-in-bangladeshFeni, our working area, situated around 100km northwest of Chittagong port city, has been the hardest hit. Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar is also facing severe challenges, with rising waters swallowing entire communities. Rescue efforts continue, with the Bangladeshi army and navy deploying speedboats and helicopters to evacuate stranded families. The floodwaters have left devastation in their wake—homes submerged, livelihoods lost, and clean water now scarce.
The situation is compounded by infrastructure damage: 13 percent of mobile network sites are down in flood-affected areas, while network disruptions have been reported in several upazilas due to damaged optical fibers. Additionally, electricity has been cut off in multiple regions, forcing many areas to rely on generators to maintain power supply.
This fight is a fight for survival, and YouthNet is on the frontline, working tirelessly to support those in need. Many people are already helping us, but YouthNet members in flood-affected areas across the country urgently need your assistance.
During this humanitarian crisis, our YouthNet Global teams are on the frontline to rescue and distribute dry food and other essential aid to those in need, but the scale of the crisis far exceeds our available resources. We urgently require water purification tablets, more boats, and essential resources to ensure survival.
